CSR News: Revival of 16,800 KL Community Pond in Baddi; Moves Closer to Water Positivity

Baddi

India’s leading Natural & Ayurvedic Healthcare Company Dabur India Ltd today announced the successful revival of an old, neglected community pond in village Narangpur of Baddi (Himachal Pradesh). The restored water body, with a capacity to collect and harvest over 16,800 KL of rainwater, is the 20th water body to be revived by Dabur and marks a significant step forward in Dabur’s mission to become a Water Positive Organization by 2030.

The revamped Narangpur pond was handed over to the local community by Dabur India Limited Chairman Mr. Mohit Burman, in the presence of the Dabur Management Committee. This revived pond is set to benefit around 150 families in the village and will now serve as a powerful source for storing rainwater, which will help increase the groundwater level and facilitate the irrigation of nearby agricultural land. This will lead to enhanced crop yield for local farmers and a subsequent increase in farmer income. Additionally, it will be a permanent source of water for villagers engaged in animal husbandry.

As part of the restoration work, Dabur – through its CSR arm Jivanti Welfare and Charitable Trust – undertook deep digging and desilting of the pond, constructed a boundary wall, undertook stone-pitching and plantation to strengthen the banks and created improved water drainage system to filter plastic waste.

“With these enhancements, the pond now has the capacity to store a larger amount of water, ensuring its availability for the local community throughout the year. This traditional water conservation system can become a lifesaver for rural areas facing water crises. By restoring this local pond, Dabur is not only contributing to water conservation but also enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Narangpur village,” Dabur India Limited Chairman Mr. Mohit Burman said.

“We are thrilled to see the positive impact that the revival of this pond will have on the community. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to sustainable development and water conservation. Reviving the neglected water bodies and ponds has resulted in a 30% increase in farmer income in the region by way of higher crop yield. By working together, we are not only addressing the immediate water needs of the village but also contributing to the long-term environmental sustainability of the region. Our goal of becoming water positive by 2030 is ambitious, but projects like this will ensure that we achieve this target ahead of schedule,” Mr. Burman added.

Bengal is burning, Govt is silent: Yogi Adityanath slams Mamata Banerjee over Murshidabad violence

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday launched a verbal attack on his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee over the ongoing violence in Murshidabad during protests against the Waqf Amendment Act. The UP CM has accused Mamata Banerjee of remaining silent at a time when the state of West Bengal is “burning”.

Complete freedom given to rioters to create unrest: Yogi

Speaking at a public event in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi, CM Yogi Adityanath said, “Bengal is burning and the Chief Minister is silent. She calls rioters messengers of peace. Laaton ke bhoot baaton se kahan manne wale hain” (Those who understand only the language of violence will not be able to understand words).

“In the name of secularism, they have given complete freedom to rioters to create unrest. The entire Murshidabad has been on fire for the last week, yet the government remains silent. Such anarchy must be brought under control,” he further said.

CM Yogi thanks Judiciary, slams TMC, Congress and Samajwadi Party

In response to the escalating tensions, the Calcutta High Court mandated the deployment of 17 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the regions affected by the violence. Senior officials from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been coordinating with the state police. During a visit to Murshidabad, BSF ADG (East) Ravi Gandhi was approached by women from the affected areas who pleaded for protection.

Expressing gratitude towards the judiciary for its efforts at restoring peace in Murshidabad district, Adityanath said, “I thank the respected court in West Bengal for facilitating the deployment of central security forces to protect minority Hindus”.

The senior BJP leader also criticised national opposition parties, alleging that they are deliberately silent on the matter. “Congress is silent, Samajwadi Party is silent, Trinamool is silent. They are shamelessly supporting what happened in Bangladesh”.

Dalit Hindus being killed: Yogi on Murshidabad violence

Yogi Adityanath recently reacted to the violence and loss of three lives in Murshidabad district of West Bengal during Waqf protests. Earlier this week, Yogi expressed concern saying Dalit Hindus were being targeted and killed in Murshidabad because they would otherwise benefit from the lands which were previously occupied in the name of Waqf.

Speaking at a function in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, Yogi said, “They are scared that if the Dalits, the underprivileged and marginalised get to live in high rise buildings, then their vote bank will be finished. They will not be able to mislead people anymore. Political parties like the Congress, Samajwadi Party and TMC, they are capturing the lands of these Dalit, poor and underprivileged people leaving them homeless refugees.

Lakhs of acres of land have been captured in the name of Waqf in our country without any papers, documents or revenue records. When the government is trying to get those lands back and (Waqf) Amendment Bill is passed, then violence is being encouraged.

What is happening in Murshidabad?

Violent protests broke out in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, resulting in three deaths, at least 10 people were injured, including seven to ten police personnel and over 150 arrested.

The West Bengal government deployed Border Security Force personnel to assist with law enforcement efforts, and the Calcutta High Court ordered the deployment of central forces in Murshidabad.

Custodial Death in Maharashtra:

Devendra Fadnavis
Custodial Death in Maharashtra:

Custodial Death in Maharashtra:

Mumbai Police News

Custodial Death in Maharashtra:

Tide and WE Hub together launch ‘Sarthika’ for women entrepreneurs

Tide, UK’s SME-focused business financial platform that recently launched in India, and WE Hub, Telangana’s state-led incubator for women entrepreneurs recently announced that they have launched the ‘Sarthika’ programme, to bridge the information and last mile delivery gaps in state and central government schemes for women-led micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Through this initiative, Tide aims to reach women entrepreneurs across India and enhance the ease of doing business by improving access to information and uptake of public schemes and initiatives.

The Sarthika web portal will work with the cohort at the grassroots level to help them navigate through the application process, eligibility criteria, and other important aspects of the schemes. After the completion of full KYC process, Tide India and WE Hub will work with relevant government departments to quicken operationalisation of the schemes.

The Government of India has rolled out a series of measures to boost growth and opportunities for women in business. However, lack of information about eligibility and availability of schemes, poor allocation of resources, and complex processes have led to weak demand from the people these schemes could best serve.

The Sarthika programme comes at a time when W20, under India’s G20 presidency, is focused on realising the vision of women-led development, with women as active change agents of India’s growth story rather than passive recipients of development. The W20 is an official G20 engagement group focused on gender equity.

Habitat for Humanity India and IKEA improve homes of 70 low-income families in Hyderabad

Housing non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity India and global home furnishings company IKEA in India announced last year that they are working to repair homes of 70 marginalized families living in Jagathgiri Gutta located in Medchal district, Hyderabad, Telangana.

The community living in Jagathgiri Gutta is inhabited by daily wage earners, domestic helpers, vegetable vendors, and people working in the informal sector, most living in dilapidated or damaged houses which fail to protect them from extreme climatic conditions and make them susceptible to diseases. Most houses are more than 20 years old and need repairs. Loss of livelihood caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented the families from making house repairs.

Through this collaboration, Habitat for Humanity India has repaired the damaged homes and improved the housing conditions for more than 350 individuals in the community who had suffered from the dual health and economic crises posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The repair works include fixing cracks, plastering, painting, door and roof adjustments, and overhauling of toilets.

TCS Adult Literacy Programme

TCS launched a revolutionary, cost-effective learning programme for adults in the year 2000, enabling functional literacy. Over 46,221 adults in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been positively impacted.

The Adult Literacy Programme (ALP) is one of the most successful initiatives for CSR in Telangana. It runs on TCS’ proprietary Computer-based Functional Literacy (CBFL) solution, which enables adult learners to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic within 50-55 learning hours. It is intended for native speakers of a language and works with phonetic languages. Its prime focus is on words rather than alphabets, thus enabling students to acquire a 700-word vocabulary within a short while. This programme is available in 9 Indian languages (Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Oriya and Urdu). It uses a combination of teaching methods such as software, multimedia presentations and printed materials.

TCS collaborates with agencies such as the National Literacy Mission Authority (NLMA), NGOs, and Corporate Connects to implement this programme. It is currently being deployed in coordination with the State Literacy Mission Authorities and NGOs aiming to help NLMA’s Saakshar Bharat literacy target of educating 7 crore citizens. Tata Consultancy Services has won several awards for this CSR solution including the Project of the Year award in the Contribution to Community category at the prestigious Project Management National Conference 2018.

ADP MIDAS (Making an Impactful Difference at Schools)

ADP Private Limited is a fully-owned subsidiary of ADP LLC (ADP). The company is engaged in providing Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Services to ADP’s business divisions worldwide. They commenced the MIDAS CSR project in 2008-09 in Telangana by initially adopting 5 Government Primary Schools in Hyderabad. Since then, the project has continuously evolved and now impacts 20,000 children including 150 visually impaired children and over 200 autistic children annually, making it a top programme for CSR in Telangana.

MIDAS focuses on improving learning levels and employable skills in children from early childhood till post-graduation. This programme also focuses on inclusive development through the setting up of local community libraries, science labs, and learning centres. They also have healthcare support in school. In terms of infrastructure development, the project sets up smart and digital classrooms, computer lab, digital tabs based learning and assessments, thematic paintings and complete whitewash of school, separate toilets for girls and boys, and RO water purification units. The whole infrastructural transformation built a strong, vibrant and positive atmosphere in the school, resulting in much more enrollments, attendance, performance and retention.

The MIDAS programme was featured among the ‘Best CSR Trends of the Year’ in NASSCOM’s 2016 Annual Report. ADP has been recognized twice by the HYSEA as the ‘Best Company’ for ‘Educational Initiatives’ in 2015 and 2018 for its MIDAS project and its significant impact on the community. The children studying at MIDAS schools frequently visit the ADP office and participate in the company’s Annual Day and Family Day programmes, thus gaining more exposure and self-confidence. The programme has been consistently scaling up and is completely replicable and sustainable.

Capgemini LEAP and LEAP Inclusion

In partnership with various stakeholders who have the expertise and local presence in the communities, the CSR wing of multinational corporation Capgemini facilitates the creation of sustainable livelihoods for youth through their project LEAP (Livelihood Education through Action against Poverty). With a wide array of short duration courses of 16 weeks, the project works with school and college dropouts equipping them with employable skills and providing job opportunities.

The 4-week On-The-Job-Training gives exposure of industrial functions to candidates. This enables them to enhance the current suite of training offerings to match the growing trend and future of skill requirements by recruiters.

Extensive engagement with sector experts and a strong alumni network create great support for upcoming batches. To encourage the participation of Youth with Disabilities, LEAP Inclusion focuses on the inclusivity aspect and provides training equipped to handle disabilities. NMDC Prayas

‘Prayas – A Pursuit to Education’ from government-owned NMDC is aimed at the emancipation of the backward communities residing around the company’s plants through education. Prayas is nearly two decades old, from modest beginnings it has acquired the shape of a gamechanger for local communities.

NMDC is working with NGO partners like Shamayita Math along with other specialized agencies like M/s DAV institutions for implementing different initiatives under PRAYAS. The roles of the partners vary from segment to segment. At the grassroots level, the NGO supplements the effort of the State government staff, whereas in the middle segment NMDC takes on the role of financier as well as that of an implementer. At the higher educational level, service providers and the State Authorities play the role of implementing partners and NMDC dons the role of the funding agency.

Since education is the touchstone for eventual emancipation, a significant portion of NMDC CSR efforts and funds are invested in this focus area. Another reason for choosing this thematic area is that the local region is inhabited primarily by tribal communities who have historically had minimal access to educational facilities and NMDC’s efforts have acted as a catalyst for bringing socio-economic change. In the process, education has triggered aspirations for a better life and a peaceful and prosperous future amongst the local youth. Prayas is a model for CSR in Telangana. In fact, some aspects of the initiative have been replicated across project locations in other States.

Murshidabad Violence: SIMI, SDPI and radical groups under scanner

A recent wave of violence in Murshidabad has raised red flags among security agencies, as investigations suggest the involvement of radical activists from the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), operating under the banner of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). Intelligence agencies are also probing potential links to extremist organisations based in Bangladesh. Authorities believe the unrest was not spontaneous but a pre-planned act of communal provocation.

Police sources confirmed that the Bengal police received credible intelligence pointing to SDPI’s active role in orchestrating the protests. For several days leading up to the violence, SDPI workers had reportedly been moving through local neighborhoods, particularly targeting Muslim youth with fear-mongering narratives about the amended Waqf Bill.

“Workers of SDPI, founded in 2009 after SIMI was outlawed, went door to door in various areas, spreading fear among teenagers and youth, warning them that the government was planning to seize Muslim-owned properties in the name of Waqf reforms,” an Intelligence Branch (IB) officer said.

The situation escalated sharply following the death of Ijaz Ahmed, who was injured during a police clash and later died at a Murshidabad hospital on Saturday. “His family confirmed the presence of an SDPI-led campaign in the locality, further reinforcing the suspicions,” the officer added.

Radical groups have deep roots in Murshidabad

Murshidabad has a long history of extremist activity. It once served as a hub for SIMI and later became a stronghold of the Popular Front of India (PFI), another radical group with known ties to Bangladesh-based fundamentalist outfits. The SDPI, closely linked with both SIMI and PFI, is now reportedly well-established in the region.

Intelligence agencies had been consistently alerting the Union government about the activities of radical outfits like PFI and SDPI in Murshidabad. In September 2022, the Centre banned the PFI for five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), citing threats to national security.

According to police, the violence was highly coordinated. Protests first broke out in Suti, where demonstrators blocked the national highway. As police forces concentrated there, simultaneous arson and violence erupted in nearby Shamsherganj, around ten kilometers away. “This diversion tactic prevented a quick police response and allowed the rioters to inflict significant damage,” said a senior officer.

Disturbing role of minors and returnees

Among the most troubling elements was the involvement of youth and minors, many between the ages of 10 and 20. Viral videos and eyewitness accounts reveal that many participants were young, with some reportedly manipulated into joining the violence. Many of these boys were migrant laborers who had returned home from other states for the Eid holidays and had minimal formal education.

The violence resulted in extensive damage to public infrastructure and selective targeting of Hindu-owned shops and homes, pointing to an unmistakable communal undertone. Authorities are also probing the possibility of external involvement, including cross-border influences.

Police and central forces remain heavily deployed in Murshidabad, with heightened security measures in place. The state administration is now under intense pressure to restore order, ensure accountability, and address the deepening communal tensions in one of Bengal’s most sensitive districts.

Mumbai Roads Concretisation:

Noida rape case: Supreme Court objects to Allahabad High Court’s “victim invited trouble” observation

Supreme court of India

The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday objected to a controversial observation made by the Allahabad High Court regarding a rape case of an M.A student in Noida. The Allahabad HC observed that the rape victim “herself invited trouble”. A bench led by Justices BR Gavai and A G Masih found the High Court’s observations highly insensitive.

The apex court also cautioned judges to be “careful” while dealing with cases involving sexual violence against women.

The Supreme Court took objection to the Allahabad High Court Order which granted bail to the accused of committing rape against a college student while observing that the victim had herself invited trouble and was responsible for the rape.

Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh of the High Court had made this comment on March 11 while granting bail to an accused who was arrested in December 2024 for alleged rape of a woman he had met at a bar in Hauz Khas, Delhi.

The Supreme Court made the observation while hearing a suo motu case initiated by it in relation to another case in which the Allahabad High Court had held that acts of grabbing a child victim’s breasts, breaking the string of her pyjama and attempting to drag her beneath a culvert do not constitute the offence of rape or attempt to rape. On Tuesday, a bench of Justices B R Gavai and A G Masih assembled to hear the case in which it had taken suo motu cognisance of a March 17, 2025, order of the Allahabad HC.

One has to be careful: Supreme Court slams Allahabad HC

The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to a rape accused, observing that the complainant “herself invited trouble” by agreeing to go to the applicant’s house after getting drunk. This comes days after the Supreme Court intervened to stay an “insensitive” order passed by another high court justice in a rape attempt case.
“Yes, bail can be granted.. but what is this discussion that she herself invited trouble, etc? One has to be careful when saying such things, especially on this side (judges). One thing here and there,” Bar and Bench quoted Justice BR Gavai.

Allahabad High Court’s observation on rape victim

“The victim is a student of M.A, hence, she was competent enough to understand the morality and significance of her act as disclosed by her in the FIR. This court is of the view that even if the allegation of the victim is accepted as true, then it can also be concluded that she herself invited trouble and was also responsible for the same. A similar stand has been taken by the victim in her statement,” stated the order passed by Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh in Allahabad High Court last month.

Noida rape case 2024

The March 11 order of the Allahabad High Court relates to the case which happened on September 21, 2024. According to police, the woman, a postgraduate student in Noida, had gone to attend a music concert in South Delhi with her friends. She met the accused, who was known to one of her friends, there. In her complaint, the victim has stated that the accused, who is also a student, offered to drop her back to Noida but instead took her to an apartment in Gurugram, where he allegedly raped her. The woman filed a complaint at the police station the next day.

AI in IVF
World's First Baby Born Using AI in IVF

Artificial Intelligence in In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)

World First Baby Born Using AI- आज के समय में AI हर काम को आसान बनाता जा रहा है। (First Baby Born By IVF)
