BJP Member of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad has raised questions regarding the alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) amid ongoing protests by students. Prasad’s remarks were made during a press conference held on August 6, 2026, where he highlighted the involvement of the ruling coalition in Jharkhand.

According to Prasad, the Jharkhand government has entrusted the responsibility of conducting critical public examinations to a company that has been blacklisted in other states such as Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. He asserted that this raises serious concerns about the integrity of the examination process.

“The story emerging from there clearly indicates that the Jharkhand government has awarded the entire contract to a company that was blacklisted in UP and Rajasthan as well. Yet it has been entrusted with the full responsibility for conducting several examinations. What does this imply?” Prasad questioned.

Criticism of Rahul Gandhi’s Selective Activism

Prasad further critiqued Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his perceived silence on these pressing issues, contrasting it with his active engagement in other regions, particularly Allahabad. He claimed that while Gandhi often discusses employment issues with students in various locations, he has not addressed the challenges faced in Jharkhand.

“If jobs are being sold there, why is Rahul Gandhi silent? He goes to Allahabad and other places to engage in dialogue with the youth, yet remains silent regarding the government that relies on his party’s support,” Prasad stated. He described Gandhi as a “hypocrite” with “a dual face,” suggesting that his inconsistent activism is noticed by the public.

The BJP’s criticisms coincide with widespread protests led by students, demanding an independent investigation into the alleged irregularities and the cancellation of the examinations in question. The demonstrators are urging the state government to reform the recruitment process to restore public trust.

BJP’s Support for Student Protests

In response to the ongoing unrest, BJP MLAs have also demonstrated their solidarity with the student protests by staging a protest outside the Jharkhand Assembly. BJP MLA Alok Chaurasia expressed the party’s commitment to supporting the students in their fight against corruption within state recruitment agencies.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party stands firmly and vocally with the students regarding the functioning of Jharkhand government agencies such as JPSC, JSSC, and CGL, as well as the widespread corruption across the state, particularly the fraud committed against students,” Chaurasia remarked during the protest.

Meanwhile, AJSU MLA Nirmal Mahto has called for the imposition of President’s Rule in Jharkhand, asserting that public confidence in the current system has declined significantly. Mahto’s demand reflects the increasing concerns among the political opposition about the governance of the state.

As the protests continue, student leaders have announced plans for a ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ on August 10 if their demands are not addressed appropriately by the government. The situation in Jharkhand remains tense as various stakeholders seek resolution to the ongoing turmoil.
