Betting racket busted in West Bengal’s South Dinajpur, Over 1 crore cash recovered

Police have busted a betting racket in West Bengal’s Dakshin Dinajpur. This illegal business was being carried out using various apps and websites. According to police sources, many families have already lost their lives after falling into the clutches of this illegal racket. Dakshin Dinajpur district police have arrested 14 people in the last few days through raids. More than Rs 1 crore in cash was recovered from different locations in the district during raids conducted throughout Sunday night.

Dakshin Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Chinmay Mittal said in a press conference on Monday, “A total of 14 people of the illegal betting racket have been arrested. We have recovered Rs 1 crore 34 lakh 97 thousand from the arrested.” However, as per police estimate, there may be more people associated with this racket. Police are conducting raids in various places in search of the masterminds.

Masterminds of betting racket arrested

According to police sources, betting rackets are increasing in Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal which operate through various apps and websites. After getting information through sources, the district police administration launched a drive across the district. A few days ago, 12 people associated with the betting racket were arrested. During investigation, police learnt the whereabouts of three masterminds of this racket. One of the masterminds, Pintu Ghosh was arrested, who is a local hotelier. It is alleged that the betting racket was being run by him.

After interrogating Pintu Ghosh, two more people named Apurba Sarkar and Kunal Das were arrested from Gangtok, Sikkim. While Apurba is a teacher at Nayabazar High School in Gangarampur. Investigators raided his in-laws’ house in Raghunathpur area of Balurghat on Sunday night from where a huge amount of betting money was recovered, over Rs 1.17 crore.

Special police operations were conducted in several places in Gangarampur city late at night. Several people have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the gang. Not only that, police sources also reported that several lakhs of rupees were recovered.
