Asia Cup: India Beat Oman by 29 Runs; Surya Yadav Forgets Team Change at Toss

The CSR Journal Magazine

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was completely blanked when Ravi Shastri asked him to play XI. While he named Harshit Rana’s inclusion, he forgot the second change.

“We’ve got Harshit. And the second change… Let me remember. Oh my God! I am becoming like… I’ve become like Rohit Sharma.” Surya left without announcing the second change and later disclosed that Arshdeep Singh is also playing. So, now as the two pacers Harshit and Arshdeep are playing, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy will be sitting out.

India prefers to bat first

Regarding the batting first choice, Surya said the decision has been taken as India hasn’t got enough batting time in the tournament. And this is true, India has batted for 20 overs in two games, and middle and lower order haven’t got a chance to play. Surya said, “We are looking to bat first. We have not batted first in this competition, and we want to know our depth. Having game time is important going into the Super 4s. We want to continue the good habits we are doing in the first two games, and want to continue to do that. It is looking nice, and our openers will assess it further.”

Rohit’s Forgetful Habit

ODI captain Rohit Sharma has long been known for his forgetful habit. In the past, Virat Kohli sensationalised Rohit’s iPads which he forgot. He too had forgotten the team at the toss and in the past he has been seen thinking deeply trying to recall. In 2023, during an ODI against New Zealand, Rohit, after a lot of thought, decided the team will bat first.

India wins last Group A match

In the last Group A match, India wrapped up with a 29-run victory over Oman in Abu Dhabi. Oman performed well with a target of 189. Sanju Samson’s 56 off 45 balls and Abhishek Sharma’s quick 38 from just 15 deliveries anchored the team to win.
