Amit Shah’s Kolkata visit: BJP to Unveil Chargesheet Before Manifesto

The CSR Journal Magazine

Amid the intensifying political atmosphere ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Kolkata, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) preparing to sharpen its campaign against the ruling dispensation.

According to party sources, Shah is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata at 11:40 PM on Friday. Senior BJP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, state president Samik Bhattacharya, and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, are expected to be present at the airport to welcome him.

Chargesheet before manifesto: BJP’s strategy

On Saturday at around 12:00 PM, Shah will address a press conference at a city hotel, where he is expected to release a ‘chargesheet’ against the government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Party insiders indicate that the chargesheet will focus on alleged shortcomings of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) government across 14 key sectors, highlighting what the BJP terms as a “decline” during Banerjee’s 15-year tenure. The document is also expected to target senior party leadership, including TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Sources suggest that the BJP has deliberately chosen to release the chargesheet before unveiling its election manifesto, signalling an aggressive campaign approach ahead of the polls. The manifesto is expected to be released at a later stage.

Campaign push gains momentum

Even as candidates for 19 constituencies are yet to be announced, the BJP has intensified its campaign efforts across the state. In the run-up to Ram Navami, the party has organised multiple outreach programmes aimed at strengthening its connect with voters.

The party has already released its candidate lists in three phases, and campaign plans involving top leadership are said to be nearing finalisation.

The visit also comes amid repeated assertions by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has indicated that after electoral successes in states like Bihar and Odisha, the BJP is now focused on expanding its footprint in West Bengal.

With Shah’s visit expected to kickstart a fresh phase of political mobilisation, the BJP appears set to escalate its offensive in what is shaping up to be a high-stakes electoral battle.
