Ambulance Turns Killer: Speeding Ambulance Kills Couple at Bengaluru Signal

The CSR Journal Magazine

A late-night accident near Richmond Circle in Bengaluru turned tragic after an ambulance lost control and rammed into several motorcycles waiting at a red light, killing a couple instantly and injuring two others.

Police said the accident occurred around 11:00 pm on Saturday, when the speeding ambulance approached the signal from Richmond Circle and collided with multiple two-wheelers. The vehicle reportedly dragged one of the motorcycles for several metres before smashing into a police kiosk and coming to a halt.

The deceased were identified as Ismail (40) and his wife Sameen Banu, who were riding a Dio scooter at the time of the crash. Both died on the spot. Two other riders sustained critical injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital.

Locals Tried Helping Victims

Soon after the collision, chaos erupted at the site. Residents and bystanders rushed to help, trying to lift the damaged ambulance that had crashed into the police outpost. Videos circulating online showed broken motorcycles scattered across the road, with locals shouting at the driver.

Eyewitnesses said this wasn’t the first such incident in the area. “Today, this recklessness has taken two innocent lives,” one resident told News18 Kannada, alleging that some ambulance drivers routinely speed through traffic even without emergencies. Angry locals later overturned the ambulance in protest, accusing the driver of carelessness.

Traffic police from Wilson Garden station reached the scene soon after, conducted an inspection, and detained the driver, Ashok, for questioning. Officials confirmed that no patient was inside the ambulance when the crash happened. An FIR has been filed, and a detailed investigation is underway to determine whether overspeeding or negligence caused the fatal accident.
