In a tragic incident in Ahmedabad, Yashrajsinh Gohil, nephew of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil, allegedly shot his wife, Rajeshwari Gohil, before taking his own life. The couple had been married only two months and were living in NRI Tower on Judges Bungalow Road.

Police reports suggest that the incident unfolded late Wednesday night following a domestic argument. During the dispute, Yashrajsinh, a Class-I officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board, allegedly fired his licensed revolver at Rajeshwari, striking her in the neck. He immediately contacted the 108 emergency service, but Rajeshwari was declared dead upon the medical team’s arrival.

Police Investigate Incident

According to authorities, after the emergency team left, Yashrajsinh reportedly went to another room and ended his life using the same firearm. Both bodies were recovered at the scene and sent for postmortem examination. Police are investigating the firearm licence, emergency call records, and other evidence, while also speaking to family members to understand the exact sequence of events.

Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi described the tragedy as deeply distressing, saying, “The entire family is in a state of shock. The family of Shaktisinh Gohil ji is in a state of shock. It is an extremely painful situation for the family.”

Doshi added, “I knew Yashraj personally, and he was a very happy-go-lucky person. He recently passed the maritime board exams and was posted as an officer. He was also preparing for the UPSC exams. The couple was living very happily and was, in fact, planning to go abroad for a vacation. Yashraj had a habit of playing with his revolver. He mistakenly misfired, and the bullet hit his wife. He immediately called 108. When the 108 team arrived at his home and examined his wife, she had already died. He was so taken aback and in such a state of shock that he picked up the same revolver and shot himself.”

Police Secure Ahmedabad Apartment

Officials from the Vastrapur Police and Crime Branch have secured the apartment complex and allowed only residents to enter. Senior police personnel also visited the scene, and Shaktisinh Gohil along with other family members later arrived at the civil hospital.

The motive behind the couple’s argument remains under investigation. No suicide note has been recovered, and authorities are verifying all details, including the firearm license, to determine how the incident occurred. Yashrajsinh had recently been promoted to Class-I officer in the Gujarat Maritime Board, while the couple had moved to Ahmedabad from Bhavnagar after their marriage.

This shocking event has left the family and community reeling, highlighting the devastating consequences of domestic disputes.
