Adivi Sesh Reveals Bilingual Plan for Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha, Inspired by Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man

The CSR Journal Magazine

Adivi Sesh, Mrunal Thakur, Anurag Kashyap, and Zayn Marie Khan gathered in Mumbai for the unveiling of the Hindi version of their movie, Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha. The film has been shot concurrently in both Telugu and Hindi, rather than being dubbed into Hindi. Sesh elaborated on this creative choice during the event, drawing parallels to Akshay Kumar’s 2018 film, Pad Man, which is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham.

Cultural Adaptations for Diverse Audiences

Sesh shared his thoughts on cultural differences, stating, “In the US, black dresses are worn for funerals, whereas in India, it is customary to wear white and express grief vocally.” He highlighted the importance of these cultural nuances in the film’s production, referencing the adaptation of the song “Chichubuddi” to “Touch Buddy” for Hindi audiences. This change incorporated elements of Bhojpuri music through Pawan Singh while blending with the urban style of singer Jonita Gandhi, illustrating their approach to making the film relatable and entertaining.

Discussing the narrative, Sesh reflected on the relevance of Tamil stories to wider audiences, influenced by his admiration for Pad Man. He noted, “It made me wonder why we cannot present Tamil stories to Hindi audiences. Setting such tales in locations like Madhya Pradesh seems unnecessary, especially when they are grounded in true events.” His observation led to the decision to place the story along the Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border, aiming for authenticity representative of Hindi cinema.

Sesh expressed confidence that if executed well, the film will resonate with audiences in Northern India, stating, “I experienced this firsthand when we released ‘Touch Buddy’ in Gorakhpur, where audiences enthusiastically recited the dubbed dialogues from my film.” This interaction reinforced his belief that a genuine connection could be established with viewers, transforming perception and making him a relatable figure in their eyes.

Moreover, he stressed the importance of representing the original vision in both languages, underscoring their commitment to authenticity in both Telugu and Hindi storytelling. This dual approach aims to ensure that every viewer, regardless of their linguistic background, feels an inherent connection to the narrative.

Release Date and Anticipation

Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha is scheduled to be released in theatres on April 10, 2025. The combination of cultural relevance and innovative storytelling aims to attract a diverse audience, promising a unique cinematic experience. The film’s approach reflects a strategic effort to bridge regional narratives with wider appeal, bolstered by observed successes from previous films.

During the trailer launch event, Sesh also discussed the carefully considered release date, acknowledging the need to avoid clashes with films from other prominent filmmakers. He noted, “We realised that the showcasing we desired was hindered by my FRIEND Aditya Dhar’s remarkable film, Dhurandhar, which continues to draw audiences.” This awareness reflects an understanding of the competitive film landscape, as release timing plays a crucial role in a film’s success.

The team appears optimistic about the reception of Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha, hoping to set a new precedent for how regional stories are presented across languages. With a strong foundation rooted in realistic portrayals and cultural authenticity, the film is likely to prompt discussions about language, adaptation, and audience engagement in Indian cinema.
