The CSR Journal Magazine

The Director General of Police (DGP) for Odisha, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, has commended the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for its transformative impact on the state’s judicial system. In a press briefing on Thursday, the DGP stated that the new BNS framework has accelerated the judicial process, establishing a focus on victim rights. According to Khurania, Odisha has successfully concluded 70 cases where verdicts were rendered within a 100-day period.

BNS Implementation Nationwide in 2024

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was implemented across India on July 1, 2024. The new legal framework aims to expedite justice for victims, ensuring that the entire judicial process is completed as swiftly as possible. Khurania highlighted that the introduction of these laws has significantly enhanced the efficiency of the justice delivery mechanism. He reiterated that Odisha has seen remarkable outcomes, with judges issuing verdicts in a notable number of cases within the specified time frame.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Visit

In conjunction with these developments, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the ‘New Nyaya Sanhita’ exhibition in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Shah will serve as the Chief Guest at the 57th Raising Day ceremony of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) taking place in Mudali, Odisha. During his visit, he will also perform the Bhumi Pujan to lay the foundation stone for the campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Bhubaneswar. Furthermore, the Home Minister plans to virtually launch the transit campus of the NFSU.

Enhancing Forensic and Investigative Infrastructure

As part of his itinerary, Amit Shah will also conduct the Bhumi Pujan for the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), which is set to be constructed near the NFSU campus. MoUs to Strengthen Educational Collaborations

During the event, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed with the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar and the Rashtriya Raksha University. The establishment of the NFSU campus in Bhubaneswar is viewed as a crucial advancement in strengthening the forensic and investigative framework in Odisha. The permanent campus will span 40 acres, a project facilitated by land allocated by the Odisha government, focusing on developing areas of excellence in forensic and allied sciences.

Academic Programs at NFSU

The temporary campus of the National Forensic Sciences University is set to begin operations offering three specialized academic programs: M.Sc. in Forensic Science, M.Sc. in Digital Forensics and Information Security, and LL.M. in Cyber Law and Cyber Crime Investigation. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing the educational landscape in forensic sciences, equipping students with vital skills for future careers in various sectors.
