An unfortunate family gathering for Holi turned deadly in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, when a 25-year-old man reportedly stabbed his twin sister more than 40 times and subsequently attacked their mother. The incident unfolded after the accused, identified as Hardik, descended into a state of depression following a breakup with a woman he met on Instagram. Believing that his mother and sister were responsible for the dissolution of the relationship, Hardik’s anger culminated in a violent outburst that has left the family in shock.

Details of the Attack Unfold

The incident occurred in Buddhi Vihar Colony under the jurisdiction of the Majhola police. Neelima, the mother of the twins, works at a health insurance firm, and her children, Hardik and his twin sister Himshikha, who both lived and worked in Gurugram, had returned to Moradabad to celebrate Holi. After the festive gathering, the siblings were scheduled to return to Gurugram on Friday.

On the day of the attack, Neelima left for the office, leaving Hardik and Himshikha alone at home. It was during this time that Hardik allegedly launched a sudden knife attack on his sister, inflicting severe injuries before leaving her on the floor. Instead of seeking help, he went to his mother’s workplace and lured her back home under false pretenses. Upon entering, Neelima was met with the horrifying sight of her daughter in a pool of blood, prompting her anguished cries. At that moment, Hardik also attacked her, stabbing her multiple times before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Community Response to the Violence

Upon hearing Neelima’s screams, nearby residents rushed to the residence, discovering the gruesome scene. An ambulance was called, and both victims were taken to the district hospital. Himshikha was pronounced dead on arrival, while Neelima, sustaining critical injuries, was admitted for treatment and remains hospitalized.

Background of Relationship and Breakdown

During the police investigation, it was revealed that Hardik had been in a relationship with a young woman from Pune, whom he had connected with on Instagram. The relationship ended approximately seven months before the attack, after which Hardik exhibited signs of emotional disturbance, as noted by Moradabad SP City Ranvijay Singh. Neelima described his deteriorating behavior, indicating that he had grown increasingly irritable since the breakup and often blamed his mother and sister for his problems.

Accused Provides Account of the Incident

When questioned, Hardik recounted the events leading to the attack. He mentioned that he fell in love with a woman he met on Instagram, but following their breakup, he fell into depression. Even though his mother and sister attempted to console him, he lost control. Hardik stated that he grabbed a large knife from the kitchen and attacked his sister multiple times while she was in the bedroom, also expressing a lethal intent towards his mother.

The post-mortem examination confirmed the brutality of the attack, revealing that Himshikha suffered over 40 stab wounds, indicating extreme violence. Authorities have taken Hardik into custody and are continuing their investigation into this tragic incident.
