In a tragic incident, 18 devotees were killed in a major road accident in Deoghar, Jharkhand, on Tuesday. The accident took place near the Jamuniya forest at around 4:30 a.m.
A bus carrying Kanwariyas collided head-on with a truck loaded with gas cylinders, resulting in a devastating impact. Several people were critically injured, and emergency services rushed to the spot to provide aid.
Inspector General of Dumka Zone, Shailendra Kumar Sinha, shared that a 32-seater bus was carrying pilgrims when the accident occurred. He also confirmed that the number of casualties may rise, as many of the injured remain in critical condition.
“Upon receiving the information, the emergency team reached the site, and the injured were shifted to a hospital where they are undergoing treatment. The rescue operation is being monitored by the district administration,” he said.
Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey stated, “In my Lok Sabha constituency of Deoghar, during the Kanwar Yatra in the holy month of Shravan, 18 devotees lost their lives in a road accident involving a bus and a truck. May Baba Baidyanath grant strength to their families to bear this sorrow.”
He further mentioned that the accident occurred at a time when around 3 lakh pilgrims were present at the Baba Dham temple in Deoghar to mark the third Monday of Sawan. “An investigation has already been launched, and the authorities are looking into the matter,” he added.
