The CSR Journal Magazine

In a bizarre incident, a youth in West Bengal’s Baidyabati has been arrested along with his three friends for making bomb and hurling it at his girlfriend’s home to attract her attention! The youth named Sagar Malik is currently being questioned by Serampore Police who are investigating the case.

The youngster has told the police that his girlfriend was not responding to his phone calls and text messages. So he thought of a trick to grab her attention. What if he hurls a bomb at her home and she comes out at the balcony due to the explosion? Then at least he will be able to talk to her! As planned, the youngster first took the help of online video-sharing platform YouTube to learn how to make a bomb. Accordingly, he purchased the ingredients required to make a bomb.

What exactly happened?

On the midnight of October 28, a bomb was thrown at the wall of a house in the Malir Bagan area of Baidyabati in West Bengal’s Hooghly district which resulted in breaking the glass windows. The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera. Serampur police immediately reached the spot to investigate the incident. The residents of the house where the bomb was hurled were questioned, but they were clueless about who could have possibly thrown a bomb at their home. Police also questioned their neighbours and started scanning through the nearby CCTV footage, where they found a bike at the spot at the time of the incident which made the police suspicious.

According to police sources, Sagar Malik, a youth based in Hooghly’s Chapdani, was in a romantic relationship with a young woman residing in Malir Bagan area. As the relationship deteriorated, the two had stopped seeing each other for some time. In addition, the girl stopped answering phone calls from Sagar. In the meantime, Sagar came to know through friends that her lover was in a relationship with another young man, which made him worried as he wanted to win her back.

After discussing with his friends, Sagar learned how to make bombs by watching YouTube videos. After this, the four friends reached Malir Bagan area where the girl resides on the night of Chhath Puja and hurled the bomb at her home. The explosion was so loud that the boys fled the area in fear.

Accused caught by tracking mobile phone location

After learning about Sagar’s relationship with the young woman, the police started searching for him. They also started searching for the motorbike by tracing its number from the CCTV footage. The four youths who have been absconding since the incident, were arrested from Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas district based on their mobile tower location. Police said the arrested Sagar Malik, Prince Yadav, Praneet Pal and Ayush Yadav are between 18 and 20 years old. They will be produced before the Serampore court on Friday.
