The CSR Journal Magazine

The Haryana Vidhan Sabha recently organised a conference in Panchkula, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the state’s formation. This event was part of the ‘Samvidhan Pakhwada’ initiative, which aims to reflect on Haryana’s developmental journey since its establishment in 1966. The conference focused on evaluating the state’s progress, addressing current challenges, and outlining a future roadmap for development.

The fortnight-long programme is designed to engage public representatives in discussions about Haryana’s evolution and to strategise towards achieving the status of a fully developed state. The concluding session took place on Monday, with Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan emphasising the importance of public participation in governance and the role of elected officials in fostering an informed society.

In attendance at the inaugural session was Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who served as the chief guest and addressed the gathering of public representatives. The conference featured contributions from approximately 21 representatives, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who shared their insights and perspectives on the state’s development.

Discussions and Key Highlights

During the conference, Speaker Kalyan highlighted the significant developments in Haryana over the past six decades, acknowledging the contributions of former chief ministers and various public representatives. He noted the current priorities of the state, underscoring that despite differing political ideologies, the ultimate goal of all public representatives should be the welfare of society, the state, and the nation.

Kalyan also pointed out the digital and legislative reforms implemented by the Haryana Assembly in the last two years. He mentioned that training sessions and workshops had been conducted to enhance the efficiency of both legislators and Assembly officials. The Speaker advocated for legislative bodies to unite on a common platform to exchange experiences and best practices, which would benefit governance across the state.

Furthermore, Kalyan remarked that development should not be solely assessed through physical infrastructure but should also consider the awareness of rights and duties among all segments of society. He expressed that true progress is realised when every individual is informed and engaged in the democratic process.

Reflections on Haryana’s Journey

In his vote of thanks, Deputy Speaker Krishan Lal Middha reflected on Haryana’s journey from 1966 to 2026, describing it as more than just a timeline of six decades. He characterised it as a narrative of struggle, hard work, self-confidence, and collective resolve. Middha acknowledged the vital contributions of farmers, soldiers, labourers, women, and youth in shaping the state’s identity.

He further asserted that Haryana has established a unique position within the broader narrative of national development, attributing this success to the diligence and talent of its people. Middha emphasised that public representatives have played a crucial role in this journey, contributing to the state’s achievements and ongoing development.

The conference served not only as a celebration of Haryana’s past but also as a platform for envisioning its future. By fostering dialogue among public representatives, the event aimed to galvanise efforts towards a self-reliant and developed Haryana, ensuring that the state’s progress is inclusive and sustainable for all its citizens.
