Inter-State Illegal Arms Trafficking Ring Disrupted in West Bengal

The CSR Journal Magazine

The West Bengal Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has disrupted an illegal arms trafficking network operating between West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The operation, which commenced on September 25, 2026, unfolded over 17 days, culminating in several arrests and the seizure of unlawful firearms, ammunition, and cash amounting to Rs. 3.90 lakh, suspected to be derived from arms sales.

This crackdown followed the arrest of Md. Farhan, also known as Musan, in Durgapur, West Bengal. During this initial arrest, the STF confiscated two pistols, two magazines, and a total of 20 live rounds. This pivotal capture provided the force with essential leads concerning the broader arms trafficking network they were investigating.

Subsequent Developments and Evidence Collection

After Md. Farhan’s detention, STF operatives traced financial transactions and supply routes across the surrounding states, leading to various coordinated raids and additional arrests. The suspects apprehended during this extensive operation include Md. Shahnawaz Alam, known as Guddu, along with Pawan Kumar Singh and Ganesh Rana.

The STF reported that the operation yielded not only firearms but also significant amounts of cash, all forming a critical part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation into the illegal arms trade. The recovery included two 9 mm pistols, one magazine, four live rounds, and the aforementioned cash sum.

Following these discoveries, the agency has committed to a thorough analysis of the seized items to establish links to the broader arms trafficking network. This step is essential for understanding the scale and operation of the elements involved.

Continued Investigation and Future Actions

The STF remains engaged in a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying additional associates involved in the trafficking ring. This involves dismantling the suspected weapons supply chain and tracking down further manufacturing sites connected to this illicit activity. As the probe progresses, the agency is expected to unveil more details related to the operations spanning the three states.

The ongoing efforts reflect a determined pursuit to tackle the challenges posed by illegal arms trafficking in the region, making strides towards enhancing public safety and security. With the arrests made and the evidence collected, further actions against those implicated are anticipated. The STF aims to ensure accountability and prevent any future risks associated with illegal armament distribution in West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
