West Bengal Tourism Department to launch app to make Durga Puja pandal hopping convenient

Durga Puja is less than two months away, this year the dates being in September. To help people plan better for the festival, West Bengal tourism department will be launching an application. The app is aimed to help users find hotels and other establishments along with quickest routes to popular Durga puja pandals. It will have an SOS feature, enabling tourists to quickly request emergency assistance from police, medical services and embassies for foreign tourists.

The app will have an option of a ‘Panic Button’. Geo-tracking-based emergency response assistance in the app is also being worked on. There will also be real-time alerts for natural disasters, strikes or route closures. The app will be compatible with different devices and screen sizes.

App will make pandal hopping convenient with GPS enabled maps

The state tourism department plans make the experience of pandal hopping convenient and more enjoyable. So, the app will help pandal hoppers get all necessary information about all the small and big pujas without hassle.

The routes and specific locations of all the big pujas in the city will be available on this app. Exact directions to the pandals will be available on the GPS map. It will have GPS-enabled maps, showing locations of major pandals in Bengal. Pandal details, their theme descriptions, and even updates on crowds, traffic diversions, weather and emergency alerts, will be available.

Keeping in mind, the safety and security of pandal visitors, the app will have a ‘panic button’, as well as SOS feature, geo tracking and emergency options. The app will help users to get quick police help and medical help in emergency situations.

App will also benefit foreigners visiting Kolkata during Durga Puja

A lot of foreigners visit Kolkata during Puja. The app will have all the necessary information including hotels and embassy so that they do not have to get confused amid the festive crowd. This tourist-centric app will also provide details on tourism destinations in West Bengal as well as places to stay, like hotels, resorts, homestays, guest houses, along with their booking facilities, and food joints.

The tourism department is hopeful that this app will not only benefit the general public, but also help control the crowd or avoid any unpleasant situations. The app will be launched just before Durga Puja.
