Rajnath and Yogi Finalise Flood Prevention Plan Along Gomti

The CSR Journal Magazine

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a meeting on Saturday to discuss strategies to mitigate flooding in Faizullaganj. The meeting, held in the evening, included senior officials from various departments such as irrigation, urban development, housing, health, revenue, and energy. The aim was to devise a comprehensive plan to address the flooding that has affected local residents.

During the meeting, Singh expressed gratitude towards the state government and district administration for their ongoing relief efforts. He highlighted the urgent need for permanent solutions to aid families impacted by the recent flooding, which has caused significant losses in Faizullaganj and surrounding low-lying areas. The construction of a 5.5 km embankment along the left bank of the Gomti, from IIM Road to Pucca Pul (Hardinge Bridge), was identified as a priority project.

Singh emphasised the importance of developing essential infrastructure, including a trunk drainage system, a comprehensive sewerage network, and reliable water supply connections for every household. He called for these initiatives to be executed in a timely manner to ensure long-term relief for the affected communities.

Immediate Relief and Infrastructure Development

Chief Minister Adityanath reiterated the necessity for immediate assistance to families affected by the flooding. He instructed officials to guarantee the availability of clean drinking water, food, medical care, and sanitation in the impacted areas. The Chief Minister also ordered the prompt repair of damaged roads and called for coordinated efforts among departments to create a time-bound action plan for addressing waterlogging issues.

In addition to the embankment construction, the Chief Minister proposed the development of modern drainage systems and pumping facilities. He assured that the government would support every affected family and highlighted the need for comprehensive development in Faizullaganj. This includes plans for a new integrated school that will offer education from pre-primary to Class 12, aimed at enhancing educational accessibility for local children.

To improve healthcare services, Adityanath announced that all primary health centres in waterlogged areas would be upgraded to community health centres. Furthermore, a new 132-KV substation will replace the existing 33-KV facility to ensure a stable power supply for residents.

Flood Relief Efforts and Community Impact

Officials reported that approximately 6,500 houses in Faizullaganj had been affected by the flooding, impacting over 38,000 individuals. The ground level in Faizullaganj is four metres below the normal water level of the Gomti, which reached 108.60 metres on October 8, exceeding the warning level of 108.50 metres. This situation has necessitated the establishment of 16 flood relief posts and eight shelter homes to assist those displaced by the flooding.

Rescue operations have been conducted with the support of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). A total of 106 boats, 40 motorboats, and 19 steamers were deployed in these efforts. Relief measures included the distribution of 11,275 food relief kits, 67,800 lunch packets, and 1,18,500 litres of drinking water.

Health teams comprising 28 doctors and paramedical staff have been actively visiting affected households, treating 8,591 patients and distributing essential medical supplies, including 12,291 medicine kits and 8,591 chlorine tablets. The municipal corporation has also mobilised resources such as 75 water tankers and 36 mobile toilets to support the community during this crisis.
