A chilling case of betrayal has come to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district. Here, a woman allegedly conspired with her lover to murder her husband. This comes just a day after fasting for his long life on Karwa Chauth. The incident occurred in Kalua village, where the victim, Rinku, worked as a mason.

According to police officials, Rinku was shot dead near Rafayatpur village on October 11. This comes shortly after returning from a visit to a doctor with his wife and their young daughter. Investigations later revealed that his wife, in collaboration with her lover Ajit, had orchestrated the entire plan.

Murder Disguised as an Accident

On the day of the murder, Rinku’s wife told him she was running late at the doctor’s clinic and asked him to come and pick her up. While returning home on his motorcycle with her and their daughter, Ajit lay in wait at a speed breaker near Rafayatpur.

As planned, when the bike slowed down at the breaker, Ajit fired at Rinku. All three fell off the vehicle due to the impact. To avoid suspicion, the woman accompanied her injured husband to the medical college, pretending it was an accident.

Lover Gave Ultimatum: ‘Choose One’

During police interrogation, it was revealed that the affair began two years ago when Rinku worked at Ajit’s house. The illicit relationship between Ajit and Rinku’s wife deepened over time, leading to tensions at home. Rinku eventually became suspicious and reportedly confronted Ajit just days before the murder, slapping him multiple times.

Humiliated, Ajit gave Rinku’s wife an ultimatum, to choose between him and her husband. She chose her lover, and together they planned Rinku’s murder, which they executed just a day after she observed the Karwa Chauth fast for her husband’s longevity.

Police Crack the Case, Arrest Both Accused

Gonda Rural SP Amrit Jain and CO Mahesh Kumar confirmed the arrests. Based on surveillance data and witness accounts, police arrested Rinku’s wife from her home and Ajit from the Khair-Tentigaon road. The weapon used in the crime, a country-made pistol, was also recovered.

Both accused have been sent to jail after being presented before a remand magistrate. The investigation revealed that the motive stemmed from an extramarital affair and growing animosity between the victim and his wife.

The case has left the local community in shock, particularly because of the brutal irony of the timing, right after a festival meant to pray for a husband’s life.
