The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that all schools in the state will close early on Monday,  at 12:15 pm due to the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. This adjustment is aimed at managing the increased movement of pilgrims throughout the region during this significant religious event. The decision affects all educational institutions, ensuring the safety and convenience of both students and families.

Extended Closures for Educational Institutions

Earlier decisions have prompted school closures in districts including Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, which will continue until August 12, 2026. The Shravan month began on July 30, 2026, with the prominent festival of Shravan Shivratri set for August 11. This period traditionally sees heightened activity from devotees and Kanwariyas travelling through various routes, prompting authorities to maintain order and safety across educational and public venues.

In addition to schools for students from nursery to Class 12, colleges, universities, and technical institutions—both public and private—will also halt classes during this timeframe. However, the order specifies that any examinations that were pre-scheduled will continue as planned, ensuring that academic commitments are not disrupted by the early school dismissals.

For the duration of the closures, from August 4 to August 12, educational institutions have been instructed to prepare necessary arrangements to accommodate the holiday period. This includes updating students and staff regarding any critical information pertaining to examinations or reopening dates following the closures.

Furthermore, educational authorities are closely monitoring the situation surrounding the Kanwar Yatra and are prepared to make further announcements as necessary.
