The Trinamool Congress ousted the 34-year-old Left Front government in 2011. At that time, the Trinamool’s alliance partner was the Congress. However, that alliance did not last long in Bengal. Is there any possibility of the Trinamool joining hands with the Congress in the 2026 elections? Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee gave a clear answer to this from Delhi on Tuesday.
Pouring cold water on speculations about a Trinamool-Congress alliance in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections, Mamata Banerjee said, “The Trinamool Congress fights alone in Bengal. All parties fight against the Trinamool Congress. Let them fight. Everyone has their own thoughts.”
On Tuesday, Mamata held a press conference at Banga Bhavan in Delhi with the families affected by the Sandeshkhali incident. Trinamool’s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee was also present. During the press conference, journalists raised the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Rights March’ in Bihar.
“This time we will win even more seats”: Mamata Banerjee
Just as Mamata has taken to the streets regarding the Sandeshkhali incident, similarly, Rahul was seen on the streets ahead of Bihar Elections. Therefore, journalists were curious about whether there was any possibility of a Trinamool-Congress alliance in Bengal in the 2026 elections. Journalists also asked Mamata how many seats the Trinamool might win in the 2026 elections. The Trinamool supremo smiled and said, “I am not a political astrologer. But this time we will get even more seats.”
The Trinamool supremo is confident of the party’s victory again in the 2026 elections. At the end of the press conference, she told the journalists, “I will meet you again after winning the election. Then I will treat you to some good sweets.”
In the 2016 and 2021 elections, the Congress had seat-sharing agreements with the Left. However, this time the Congress has not yet shown any interest in an alliance with the Left. As a result, speculation was growing about whether the Congress would form an alliance with the Trinamool, as it did in 2011. CM Banerjee put an end to that speculation.
58 lakh names excluded! Will SIR affect Bengal’s elections? Mamata replies
58 lakh names have been excluded from the draft voter list during the SIR (Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls) process in West Bengal. But Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared that this will not have any impact on the elections in West Bengal. She also stated that her party, the Trinamool Congress, will win even more seats.
Mamata has gone to Delhi with people from families ‘affected’ by the SIR process. On Monday, she had a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. However, she boycotted the meeting, alleging that she was insulted there. Following this, on Tuesday, the Chief Minister held a press conference at Banga Bhavan with the ‘affected’ families.
The CM was asked about the Trinamool’s strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in Bengal after the SIR process. In response, Mamata said, “I will not reveal my strategy now. I will discuss it with my party. We have many MPs, MLAs, block presidents, and booth presidents. I will not make any decision alone. We are a democratic party. We will not give up an inch of ground.”
“The BJP will not come to power in Bengal. People hate the BJP”: Mamata Banerjee
The Trinamool Congress has also approached the Supreme Court raising various questions about the SIR process. Mamata stated that she has faith in the judiciary. She hopes that she will get justice in court. And if she doesn’t, she will consider other options. However, the Trinamool Supremo is certain that the BJP will not win in Bengal this time. Not only that, the Trinamool will come to power by winning even more seats than last time. In Mamata’s words, “The BJP will not come to power in Bengal. People hate the BJP.”
