Tragedy Strikes as Four Teenage Girls Drown in Yamuna River Near Nagla Nathu Village

A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Tuesday morning near Nagla Nathu village when four teenage girls drowned in the Yamuna river. The girls, all part of the same extended family, had gone to the river to bathe and cool off but were caught in a dangerous deep spot in the water.

Before entering the river, the girls were filming a short video by the riverbank. Unaware of the sudden depth, they stepped into a deep pit, which caused them to struggle and ultimately drown one after another. The victims, aged between 10 and 18, included relatives from Nagla Swami village and visitors from Rami Nagla.

Locals quickly noticed the crisis. A resident named Dipesh said he saw the girls struggling while he was near the river with friends. Despite his efforts to save them, the strong current and deep water made rescue difficult. Villagers rushed to the scene, managing to pull two girls out alive, while four tragically lost their lives.

Who are the Victims?

The two survivors were immediately hospitalsed and are reported to be in critical condition. The deceased were identified as Divya (14), Sandhya (12), Shivani (17), and Naina (14), all daughters or cousins within the extended family.

District Magistrate Arvind Mallappa Bangari visited the hospital and expressed his condolences to the grieving families. He confirmed that senior officials are closely monitoring the situation and announced a compensation package of Rs 4 lakh for each family who lost a loved one.

Local police from Sikandra police station have registered a case and started a thorough investigation into the incident. Divers and rescue teams continue their search efforts, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities are trying to piece together the exact circumstances behind the accident.

This tragedy has left the village devastated, with community members and officials rallying to support the families during this difficult time. The incident highlights the dangers posed by natural water bodies, especially to children and teenagers unaware of underwater hazards.
