“Tamil Nadu will be BJP’s Waterloo,” Says DMK MP Siva After Rajya Sabha Nomination

The CSR Journal Magazine

Following his nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, MP Tiruchi Siva from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) made strong remarks against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), suggesting that Tamil Nadu will serve as the party’s “Waterloo.”

This statement draws a parallel to the historical defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo, which marked a significant turning point in his rule. Speaking in Chennai, Siva articulated that the political landscape in Tamil Nadu is primarily an ideological battle between the Dravidian policies upheld by the DMK and what he termed as the “unilateral” ideology of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP. He accused the BJP of attempting to erode the foundational values of the nation while insisting that the DMK is committed to preserving constitutional principles.

Commitment to DMK Leadership

Siva expressed his dedication to raise the DMK’s voice in Parliament, affirming, “I will be the representative and raise the voice of DMK whenever and wherever necessary.” He also acknowledged the support he received from DMK leadership, specifically mentioning Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

While speaking about his loyalty to the party, Siva emphasized that his commitment lies with the DMK and that the leadership has validated his previous contributions. He reiterated that his responsibilities will now be heightened, emphasizing his role in voicing the party’s concerns.

Rajya Sabha Election Process Initiated

The DMK announced its candidates for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for March 16, and also outlined seat allocations for its allies. The party has been assigned four seats in total, of which one has been designated for the Congress party and another for the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). Tiruchi Siva and Professor J. Constantine Ravindran have been officially nominated by the DMK to contest for the remaining two seats. Both leaders are set to represent the DMK in the elections.

Upcoming Election Schedule Announced

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revealed the schedule for the upcoming biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha, aiming to fill 37 vacant seats across 10 states as current members conclude their terms in April 2026. The announcement indicated that the term for 37 members elected from states including Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana will end in April, thus prompting the election for new representatives.

The notification for the election process will be released on February 26, and nominations will be accepted until March 5. The scrutiny of nominations is set for March 6, with a final date for withdrawal of nominations on March 9. Voting is scheduled for March 16, with the counting of votes taking place on the same day at 5 pm.
