Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube Honored by Maharashtra CM for T20 World Cup Triumph

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian cricketers Suryakumar Yadav, who captained the team to victory, and all-rounder Shivam Dube were recently honored by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his residence, Varsha Bungalow, in Mumbai. During their meeting, the Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for their contributions to the T20 World Cup triumph. A video shared by a news agency captured the CM warmly embracing both players as they arrived. Fadnavis took to X to share his excitement, stating, “Had the pleasure of welcoming T20 World Cup 2026-winning Indian team captain Suryakumar Yadav and Batting Genius Shivam Dube at Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai. A proud moment for all of us as they continue to inspire millions across the nation.”

A Decisive Victory

India clinched the T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final match held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This dominant performance allowed the Indian team to secure the championship in a contest that was celebrated by fans nationwide well into the night. Throughout the tournament, both Suryakumar and Dube played vital roles, significantly contributing to India’s overall success with their batting and fielding efforts.

Dube’s Journey Back Home

After the final, the two players returned to Mumbai through different means. Suryakumar flew back, while Dube faced an adventurous trip via train. He recounted his experience, mentioning the unavailability of flights: “There was no flight available, so I decided to take a train from Ahmedabad early in the morning to Mumbai. We could have gone by road, but the train was faster.” Dube was accompanied by his wife and a close friend on the journey. They opted for 3rd AC tickets after booking their accommodations for the return trip.

Concerns on the Journey

Despite the excitement of returning home, Dube expressed apprehensions during his train ride. “Everyone we spoke to was concerned, family and friends. What if someone recognized me at the station or inside the train?” he shared. His eagerness to reunite with his family was palpable, as he mentioned that his four-year-old son Aayan and two-year-old daughter Mehwish were eagerly awaiting his return in Mumbai.

A Fitting End to an Unforgettable Experience

The warm welcome from CM Fadnavis marked a fitting conclusion to an exceptional few days for both players and the nation. The T20 World Cup victory not only showcased the team’s sportsmanship but also highlighted the players’ abilities to inspire the next generation of cricketers across India.
