A doctor was assaulted by the son of a patient inside a hospital in Kalyan city, Maharashtra, stemming from a disagreement on the treatment plan for the patient. The altercation took place at Bhanu Jyot Hospital on the night of August 23, 2026, and it was recorded by the facility’s CCTV cameras.

Doctor Yogendra Jaiswal was in the process of explaining the medical condition and treatment options for Jaywant Deshmukh, who had suffered a rib injury and a fracture. During this conversation, his son, Vineet Deshmukh, entered the doctor’s office and confronted Jaiswal, leading to an escalating argument.

Jaiswal recounted that he was providing details regarding the patient’s condition, the prescribed medication, and necessary precautions. However, Vineet took offense at the manner in which the doctor was communicating and expressed his displeasure through verbal abuse before exiting the office.

Confrontation and Assault Captured on CCTV

Following the initial confrontation, Vineet allegedly returned shortly after and physically assaulted Doctor Jaiswal. The CCTV footage from the hospital clearly captures these events, depicting the argument and the subsequent attack. This incident has heightened concerns regarding security within medical establishments.

“While I was explaining the patient’s treatment and care directions, his son repeatedly questioned why I was speaking so bluntly,” Jaiswal stated regarding the encounter. He later felt a need to approach local law enforcement after the assault.

In response to the attack, Jaiswal filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the police. Kalyan Assistant Commissioner of Police, Suhas Hemade, noted that Vineet’s disrespectful behaviour was indicative of a wider issue, as the altercation began with claims that the prescribed medication was ineffective.

Increased Concerns Over Healthcare Worker Safety

This incident follows a similar occurrence in Dombivli’s Shastri Nagar Hospital, where a doctor and a nurse were reportedly assailed, thus raising alarming discussions about the safety of medical staff in hospital environments. The medical community is becoming increasingly concerned about frequent attacks on healthcare professionals.

The police have initiated a case regarding the matter, and Vineet reportedly remains at large following the incident. Authorities are investigating further, aiming to ensure a safe atmosphere for both patients and healthcare providers.

Concerned stakeholders within the healthcare sector are calling for increased security measures in hospitals to protect healthcare workers from violence in the workplace. The persistent threat of such attacks jeopardises not only staff safety but also the quality of care provided to patients.
