A case has been initiated against six unidentified young men following the emergence of a video that allegedly shows a woman being harassed at Mandar Hill in Banka district, Bihar. The video, dated September 3, reportedly illustrates the youths behaving inappropriately towards the woman, including an instance where one allegedly struck her with a slipper.

The footage surfaced on social media and was brought to the attention of local authorities around three weeks later, prompting a swift response from the police. On September 22, police received the video through their social media monitoring cell at approximately 2:45 pm. The officer in charge of Bounsi police station, Pankaj Kumar Jha, confirmed that he dispatched a team to Mandar Hill shortly thereafter.

They arrived on-site around 3 pm to verify the video’s authenticity. Upon arriving, the police established that the location depicted in the footage was indeed the well-known tourist site, Mandar Hill. Local testimonies were collected, and the video was taken into evidence as authorities worked to identify both the woman and the individuals involved in the alleged harassment.

Legal Actions and Charges Filed

The allegations recorded in the First Information Report (FIR) detail the youths’ involvement in obscene acts towards the woman, exacerbated by the dissemination of the video on social media. The FIR was logged at Bounsi police station based on the SHO’s observations and statements. Charges have been invoked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 74, 75, 76, and 3(5), alongside Sections 66E and 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

While the investigation is ongoing, law enforcement authorities have intensified their efforts to locate the suspects using surveillance and local inquiries. Interviews with shopkeepers and other nearby residents revealed that the individuals captured in the video appeared to be young men, but there had been no formal identification at the time of the FIR’s registration.
