‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ Earns Praise and Profits as Aamir Khan Hosts Special Screening for President Murmu

Aamir Khan’s latest release, Sitaare Zameen Par, continues to strike an emotional chord with audiences and leaders alike. The actor recently hosted a special screening of the film at Rashtrapati Bhavan, attended by President Droupadi Murmu. Following the event, the President’s official social media account shared a photo with Khan, captioned:

“Acclaimed filmmaker and actor Shri Aamir Khan called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.”

The screening was also organised in partnership with Special Olympics Bharat, reaffirming the film’s central message of inclusion and the celebration of those with intellectual disabilities. Aamir spent time with athletes post-screening, acknowledging their achievements on international platforms.

Directed by RS Prasanna and penned by Divy Nidhi Sharma, the film sees Aamir Khan take on the role of a basketball coach guiding a team of neurodivergent individuals. Genelia D’Souza plays his wife, while the cast features ten new actors — including Aroush Datta, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, and Simran Mangeshkar — all debuting with this film.

Sitaare Zameen Par Made Thriving Start

Released on June 21, 2025, Sitaare Zameen Par has had an impressive start at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film raked in Rs 27.25 crore on Sunday, and despite a dip on Monday to Rs 8.27 crore, its total domestic collection stands at Rs 66.42 crore. Internationally, the movie grossed Rs 95.75 crore over its opening weekend and has since crossed the Rs 100 crore mark globally.

Aamir’s decision to release the film in theatres instead of opting for a digital debut seems to be resonating well with moviegoers. This marks a strong comeback after his previous film Laal Singh Chaddha underperformed.

The soundtrack — composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya — adds to the film’s emotional gravity. In a glowing review, India Today wrote:

“In a film that talks about inclusion, it’s not just the neurodivergent people who find their place, it’s also the women, written with grace, courage and, most importantly, the freedom to want more.”

Critics Praise Amir Khan

Critics have praised Khan’s return to a more comedic and emotionally grounded role. A Hindustan Times review noted:

“Aamir is good at comedy, and here too he’s back to that genre. He’s at ease with his co-stars… Genelia complements him wonderfully as the supportive wife… Dolly Ahluwalia and Brijendra Kala are adorable in their roles and justify their short screen time with solid performances.”

Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar echoed the public sentiment with a post on X: “So happy to learn about the record leap that Sitaare Zameen Par has taken at the box office on the second day. Who says good films have no takers in the audience? Congratulations to Aamir Khan and his team.”

Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, along with producers Aparna Purohit, B Shrinivas Rao, and Ravi Bhagchandka, Sitaare Zameen Par is more than just a film — it’s a heartfelt tribute to resilience, empathy, and the power of inclusion.
