Sindhi Nationalist Leader Saeed Tiyono’s Alleged Abduction Sparks Outrage in Pakistan

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM) has issued a strong condemnation regarding the recent alleged enforced disappearance of its Jamshoro district president, Saeed Tiyono. The incident reportedly occurred on March 5, when Tiyono and another activist, Sabir Abro, were purportedly abducted by Pakistani state agencies. In a statement disseminated via social media, JSFM characterized the event as a profound illustration of state brutality, asserting that security agencies are systematically targeting nationalist activists in Sindh. As of now, the whereabouts of both individuals remain unknown.

Joint Condemnation from JSFM Leadership

The leadership of JSFM, including notable figures such as Sohail Abro, Zubair Sindhi, Amar Azadi, Farhan Sindhi, Hafeez Deshi, Marak Sindhu, Hosho Sindhi, Mansoor Ahmed Hub, Muhammad Osama Soomro, and Tahir Khan, collectively condemned the incident. They emphasized that the alleged abduction indicates a broader crackdown against individuals advocating for political and economic rights in Sindh. JSFM’s statement highlighted that Tiyono had been vocal about the exploitation of the region’s natural resources and had previously campaigned for the recovery of nationalist activists who have allegedly gone missing under similar circumstances.

Advocacy for Missing Activists

According to JSFM, Tiyono had also been actively supporting political workers who faced incarceration on charges they contend are either fabricated or politically motivated. The organization has pledged to initiate a strong protest campaign if both Tiyono and Abro are not released promptly. Potential protest actions may include blocking the Jamshoro National Highway as part of a broader mobilization effort aimed at raising awareness of the situation.

Call for International Intervention

JSFM has made an appeal to the international community to intervene and address what it describes as ongoing human rights violations in Sindh and Balochistan. In its statement, the group urged global organizations, including the United Nations, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch, to investigate the alleged disappearances and to exert pressure on the Pakistani government to ensure the safe recovery of the missing activists. Furthermore, JSFM has called on lawmakers from the United Kingdom Parliament and the UK Government to address the issue on an international platform.

Concerns Over Enforced Disappearances

The organization underscored that enforced disappearances represent a severe breach of international law and basic human rights principles. JSFM warned that a continued silence from the international community could exacerbate the climate of fear experienced by political activists in both Sindh and Balochistan, further endangering their safety and security.
