Sanjay Raut Criticizes PM Modi’s ‘Team India Strategy’ as Hypocrisy, Calls for Parliamentary Discussion on West Asia

The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 28, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the government’s ‘Team India strategy’ in connection with the ongoing crisis in West Asia, labeling it as a form of hypocrisy. Raut’s comments came after a meeting where PM Modi reviewed preparedness with Chief Ministers amid escalating tensions in the region.

The Prime Minister emphasized a collective effort under the ‘Team India’ approach to navigate the challenges posed by the situation. However, Raut expressed skepticism during a press conference in Mumbai, questioning the authenticity of this collaboration. He pointed out the Prime Minister’s absence from an all-party meeting led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, emphasizing the need for a united front during crises.

Demand for Parliamentary Discussion

Raut urged the need for a parliamentary discussion to address the implications of the conflict in West Asia on India. He remarked, “Who is part of Team India? Team India is a national idea, but does the Prime Minister think of the nation? Even within his party, there is no team spirit.” He criticized the Centre for what he termed as the perpetuation of the ‘Team India’ hypocrisy, insisting that the Prime Minister should respond to questions regarding the crisis in Parliament.

Highlighting further issues, Raut reiterated the demands of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), calling for the appointment of a Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly. He suggested that a coordinated effort, termed ‘Team Maharashtra,’ should be established to effectively manage the repercussions of the West Asia crisis at the state level. This coordinated body should include the main opposition party, and Raut urged the Chief Minister to facilitate the selection process for a Leader of the Opposition.

Concerns Over Allegations Against MLAs

In addition to his criticisms regarding national policy, Raut brought attention to serious allegations involving several Maharashtra MLAs. He noted that, alongside Shiv Sena MLA Deepak Kesarkar and NCP leader Rupali Chakankar, around 40 other MLAs were allegedly connected to Ashok Kharat, who has been accused of multiple sexual assaults. Raut stated, “The issue itself is extremely grave. Is it only Chakankar who is involved? Even Kesarkar has questioned why he is being singled out.” He demanded transparency regarding the identities of these other MLAs and sought clarity on Kharat’s activities, particularly his travel to Delhi.

On the previous day, Rupali Chakankar resigned from her position as Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women and stepped down as the NCP Women’s Wing’s State President in light of claims related to her involvement in a case associated with Kharat. The allegations involve long-term sexual assault against a 35-year-old woman under the guise of spiritual guidance.

The ongoing discussions and demands from Raut reflect rising tensions within both state and national politics, as the government navigates various crises that may have far-reaching implications for its administration and public response.
