In its quest to contribute to sustainable and improved healthcare services, Royal Enfield, through Eicher Group Foundation joined hands with Ekam Foundation, a pan–India NGO working in the Maternal and Child Health Space.
This Corporate Social Responsibility initiative saw a team of senior executives from Eicher Group Foundation visit the Chengalpattu Medical College, meet and donate life-saving medical equipment worth INR 30 lakhs to the hospital’s Obstetric, Paediatric and Newborn departments.
Additionally, the organization also provided 15 television sets to stream awareness programs for waiting mothers and patient attendants. “Chengalpattu Medical College is one of the premier government medical institutions in Tamil Nadu and caters to people not just from Kancheepuram district but also from neighboring districts like Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tiruvallur etc. The hospital handles over 10,000 deliveries every year. The equipment donated will strengthen intensive care delivery of high risk mothers and further accelerate the downward trend in maternal mortality in the hospital,” said Dr V. Vanitha, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The teams also inspected the District Early Intervention Center within the hospital premises where they interacted with the team and donated play materials and learning aids to the children. “All the equipment and play materials donated will help us in improving care delivery to the children,” stated Dr Sathya Jegannathan, Head of the Department, Paediatrics.
The partnership between Royal Enfield and Ekam Foundation was formed in late 2018, with a vision to work towards holistic health and sustainable well-being for mothers and children in Kancheepuram. Targeted community-based efforts are being made within 4 panchayats of Kancheepuram namely Vallam, Nattarasampattu, Valayamkaranai and Sennakuppam towards the same objective. The focus is on bringing in sustainable change through people’s participation in healthcare.
“Ekam’s work is aligned with Goal 3 [Health and Well Being] of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, and we are grateful to the entire team at Chengalpattu Medical College and Royal Enfield for their support in this endeavour,” said Dr Sailakshmi Balijepally, Founder –Ekam Foundation.
Both the Eicher and Ekam teams are looking at being meaningful associates to the Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital that is one of Tamil Nadu’s premier centers which caters to high volumes of the most deserving patients.
