Royal Enfield has announced a temporary suspension of bookings for the Himalayan 440 in India, following an exceptionally strong demand for the newly launched adventure motorcycle. This decision comes after the company recorded a substantial number of bookings since deliveries commenced earlier this month, leading to a waiting period that has now reached approximately six months.

Launch Details and Initial Response

The Himalayan 440 was officially launched on September 4, 2026, with a starting price of Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle has been well-received, marking a significant return to the brand’s original Himalayan formula but enhanced with a larger engine and several mechanical upgrades. The surge in demand has prompted Royal Enfield to halt new bookings to prevent further extending the already lengthy waiting list.

Royal Enfield anticipates utilising this pause to boost production levels, with an aim to reduce the waiting period for customers. The company reportedly prefers not to keep customers in the dark regarding the timeline for their motorcycle deliveries.

Despite the temporary halt in bookings, Royal Enfield has indicated that there are no plans to increase the price of the Himalayan 440 when orders reopen. The competitive pricing has contributed significantly to its appeal in the full-size adventure motorcycle segment in India.

Features and Specifications of Himalayan 440

The Himalayan 440 features a newly designed 443cc, single-cylinder, long-stroke engine, generating 25.4bhp at 6,250rpm and 34Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The engine is matched to a six-speed gearbox, offering one additional gear compared to the five-speed transmission utilised in the previous Himalayan 411 model. The evolution of the motorcycle retains its hallmark adventure-oriented design and upright riding position.

In terms of handling, the Himalayan 440 is equipped with a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel. The motorcycle provides 200mm of suspension travel at the front and 180mm at the rear, ensuring reliable performance over rough terrain. Ground clearance is rated at 220mm, and braking is managed by a 300mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, complemented by standard dual-channel ABS, which features a switchable mode tailored for off-road activities.

Consumers can choose from three colour options: Sela Black, Mustang Brown, and Nelong White. Additionally, the initial batch of motorcycles is adorned with a 10-year anniversary badge, commemorating a decade since the Himalayan series was first introduced to the market.
