Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana: Part One’ to Stream on JioHotstar Nov 5

The CSR Journal Magazine

Ranbir Kapoor’s film, Ramayana: Part One, will be accessible for online viewing under a pay-per-view model once it completes its exclusive theatrical run. This arrangement allows viewers to purchase access to the film separately, rather than through a standard streaming subscription service. The film is set to premiere in cinemas worldwide on November 5, coinciding with the Diwali festival.

The digital release will be facilitated by JioHotstar in collaboration with Prime Focus Studios, marking a significant step in the distribution of mythological content in India. Following its theatrical window, the film will be available on JioHotstar through a dedicated on-demand purchase option, which is distinct from conventional subscription-based releases.

Details regarding the digital release date and pricing for access have yet to be disclosed. Even existing subscribers to JioHotstar will need to make a separate pay-per-view purchase to view the film, highlighting the unique distribution strategy being employed for this project.

Details of the Two-Part Adaptation

Ramayana has been conceived as a two-part cinematic event, produced by Prime Focus Studios in partnership with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The screenplay has been adapted by Shridhar Raghavan from the ancient epic written by Valmiki. The film features a star-studded cast, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying the character of Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita.

Other notable cast members include Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The ensemble also features well-known actors such as Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Anupam Kher, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, and Kajal Aggarwal. The film’s music is composed by Oscar-winning artists Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, adding to the film’s grandeur.

The production design is managed by Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery, while the action sequences are choreographed by Terry Notary and Guy Norris. The first instalment is expected to delve into the origins of Rama’s journey, with the overarching narrative set to unfold over both films. Ramayana: Part Two is anticipated for release during Diwali 2027, with reports indicating that approximately 50 per cent of the sequel has already been filmed earlier this year.
