Actor Rajkummar Rao has recently concluded the shooting for his upcoming biopic titled Nikam. Sharing his experiences on social media, the National Award-winning actor highlighted the significant physical transformation he underwent for the role. He emphasized his commitment to portraying characters authentically and noted the dedication required for such changes.
In his social media post, Rao stated, “My being is through my Art. Just finished shooting for my next Biopic #NIKAM and yes, it has demanded me to change physically which I love doing.” The actor reiterated his belief in achieving character transformation through hard work rather than relying on prosthetics.
Commitment to Authenticity
Rao explained his philosophy, saying he prefers to earn the visual representation of a character through discipline. He revealed that for Nikam, he gained approximately 9 to 10 kilograms, indulging in foods such as pizzas, sweets, and traditional Indian dishes to embody the role. “I had to gain around 9-10 kgs and was eating 2 pizzas and a lot of sweets, along with my favorite Aloo Parathas and Biryani,” he mentioned.
Reflecting on his previous roles, Rao recalled the challenges he faced while altering his appearance in films like BOSE: Dead or Alive and Trapped. He noted the skepticism he encountered regarding drastic changes, such as going partially bald or gaining excessive weight. Rao maintained that such transformations are vital for his performance.
Looking Ahead to Ganguly
With filming for Nikam wrapped up, Rao is now gearing up for his next project, which will reportedly see him portraying the former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. He expressed excitement about this upcoming role, referring to Ganguly as “Dada,” a term of endearment associated with the cricketer.
The actor is preparing to transition into this next phase, focusing on losing his added weight to match the iconic cricketer’s physique. He mentioned, “And now it’s the transition phase and time to lose these extra kgs and get ready to slip into Ganguly mode.”
