Punjab Bride Refuses To Marry Groom After Seeing Him At Wedding Venue

The CSR Journal Magazine

A wedding in Punjab’s Firozpur took an unexpected turn after the bride refused to marry the groom when she saw him at the wedding venue. The wedding procession had travelled from Chhatargarh in Rajasthan, but returned without the bride after the marriage was called off.

The bride claimed that she had been shown a photograph of a different man before the wedding and alleged that another person was presented as the groom at the venue. The groom’s family rejected the account, saying the marriage had been arranged with the consent of both families.

Bride Refuses To Proceed With Marriage

The wedding rituals and pheras had not begun when the bride saw the groom and refused to go ahead with the marriage, according to the information available.

The bride alleged that she had been shown a photograph of another man before the wedding. She claimed that the person who arrived at the venue as the groom was different from the man whose photograph she had been shown.

The groom’s family, however, gave a different version of events and maintained that the marriage had been arranged after discussions and agreement between both families.

Groom’s Family Denies Allegation

Mahendra Singh, the groom’s maternal grandfather, said both families had remained in contact through mobile phones before the wedding. He also said photographs of the groom had been provided by the mediators and the bride’s mother.

According to the groom’s family, the wedding arrangements had therefore been made with the knowledge and consent of both sides.

The conflicting accounts led to a complaint being submitted to the police, with both the bride’s and groom’s sides subsequently presenting their versions of the events.

Police Investigate Dispute

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Guru Har Sahai, Tejinderpal Singh, said police had received a complaint from the groom’s family two days before the incident and had begun an investigation.

The police proceedings included statements from both sides as officers examined the circumstances surrounding the cancelled wedding.

The DSP said the matter was eventually resolved between the two sides, bringing the dispute to an end without the marriage taking place.
