President Murmu to Unveil Free Pink Mobility Card for Women in Delhi

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi government is set to introduce the Pink National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) on Monday, aimed at offering complimentary bus services for women in the capital. This initiative will facilitate seamless integration with various public transport systems via a single smart card. The official launch will be conducted by President Droupadi Murmu during an event entitled “Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi” at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

Additional Scheme for Ration Card Holders

In conjunction with the Pink Card launch, President Murmu will also initiate a programme providing two free LPG cylinders each year to families holding ration cards in Delhi, timed around the festivals of Holi and Diwali. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that this benefit will be executed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), transferring an amount equivalent to the price of one cylinder into the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the ration card holder. This scheme is expected to support approximately 1.55 million families, alleviating the financial strain associated with cooking fuel and facilitating festivities.

Details of the Pink Mobility Card

The Pink Card will enable women residents in Delhi to enjoy free travel on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses. Additionally, it can be utilized for paid journeys on the Metro, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), and other public transit options. The initiative aims to enhance accessibility in public transportation, promote digital engagement, and diminish daily commuting expenses, thus improving access to education, employment, and healthcare for women.

Card Variants and Issuance Process

Three categories of mobility cards are planned: Pink for qualified women residents, Blue for general commuters, and Orange for users of monthly passes, with the initial phase rolling out Pink and Blue cards first, followed by the Orange variant. Hindon Mercantile Limited (MufinPay) and Airtel Payments Bank Limited have been authorized by the Delhi Transport Corporation for issuing these cards. The cards will be synchronized with the existing Automatic Fare Collection System across Delhi’s public transport network.

Accessibility and Documentation for Card Issuance

The Pink Card will be provided at no charge, with the financial responsibility resting on the Delhi government. Approximately 50 issuance centers will be established, including District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Magistrate offices, along with select DTC locations. The process has been designed to require minimal documentation, ensuring simplicity and transparency. Each card will be linked to the beneficiary’s mobile number and Aadhaar for age, gender, and residency verification.

Transition to Digital Mobility

The introduction of the Pink Card aims to replace the existing paper-based pink tickets, allowing for contactless travel while maintaining digital records of journeys and enhanced transparency in revenue management. During the launch event, selected women beneficiaries will receive their Pink NCMC cards, representing a significant advancement towards a more integrated and women-centric public transport system in the national capital.
