The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Google Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai at Hyderabad House in New Delhi ahead of the latter’s keynote address at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled for February 20.

The Prime Minister’s Office later shared highlights of the interaction on its official YouTube channel, offering glimpses of the discussion between the two leaders at a time when artificial intelligence is emerging as a central pillar of India’s technology strategy.

Pichai, who arrived in India earlier this week to participate in the summit, expressed appreciation for the reception he received. In a post on X, he said it was “Nice to be back in India for the AI Impact Summit – a very warm welcome as always and the papers looked great too.”

Global Leaders Gather In New Delhi

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is being held at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital from February 16 to 20. The event has drawn policymakers, technology executives, academics, innovators and civil society representatives from across the world to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.

Organisers say the summit aims to strengthen international cooperation on the development, governance and responsible use of AI technologies. It is also being projected as the first major global AI summit hosted in the Global South, reflecting India’s growing influence in shaping digital policy debates.

The conference aligns with India’s stated vision of ensuring that technological progress benefits all sections of society, often articulated through the principle of welfare and inclusive development.

Broad International Participation

More than 110 countries and 30 international organisations are participating in the summit. Delegations include around 20 heads of state or government and approximately 45 ministers, underlining the scale of interest in AI governance and collaboration.

The gathering comes amid intensifying global competition in artificial intelligence, with governments and companies seeking to balance innovation with safeguards related to ethics, security and economic impact.

Pichai’s keynote address is expected to focus on AI’s transformative potential across sectors such as education, healthcare, business and public services, as well as the responsibilities of technology companies in deploying powerful new systems.

The meeting between Modi and Pichai highlights India’s expanding role as both a major market for digital technologies and an emerging centre for AI development, talent and policy leadership.
