PM Modi Leads Floral Tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on His Birth Anniversary

On October 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and various senior leaders from multiple political parties, honoured Mahatma Gandhi at Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi. This event was in commemoration of Gandhi’s 157th birth anniversary, celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti. The gathering included notable figures who paid their respects through floral tributes.

Among the attendees were key Union Ministers such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister J. P. Nadda, and Minister of Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju. They were joined by the Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh, and the Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting L Murugan.

Political leaders from various parties made their presence felt, with BJP President Nitin Nabin and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also participating in the ceremony. Notably, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was present alongside Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her mother, MP Sonia Gandhi. Their collective attendance highlighted the significance of the occasion across party lines.

Engagement with Students

During the tribute, Rahul Gandhi was observed interacting with a school student present at the venue, fostering an environment of engagement and education about Gandhi’s legacy. In Patna, Bihar, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Governor Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd) paid their respects to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 122nd birth anniversary at LBS Park. This event highlighted the importance of commemorating pivotal figures in India’s history, drawing parallels between Shastri’s and Gandhi’s contributions to the nation.

Elsewhere, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with several other state leaders and ministers, participated in a Sarva-Dharma Prarthana and offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at the Odisha Assembly. This initiative reflected the unity and respect across various faiths and communities in remembering Gandhi’s message of peace and non-violence.

The series of events held nationwide on October 2 serves as a reminder of Gandhi’s profound influence on India’s socio-political landscape.
