“Panic Situation is Being Created”: BJP Leader Dilip Ghosh on LPG shortage

The CSR Journal Magazine

West Bengal BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has stated that the central government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, is currently managing the situation concerning Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) shortages in India. He urged citizens not to succumb to panic, asserting that the government is taking all necessary measures to ensure sufficient supply. Ghosh indicated that efforts are being made to instill fear among the public, creating an unnecessary sense of alarm regarding the LPG crisis.

Criticism from the Trinamool Congress

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has criticized the BJP-led central government, blaming its policies for the distress faced by citizens, including long queues for essential commodities like LPG. The TMC made a statement via a post on social media, alleging that governmental decisions have consistently compelled people to wait for basic services. This includes references to past events such as demonetization, the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine, Special Identification Registration, and the current LPG shortage, all contributing to public inconvenience.

Historical Context of Long Queues

The TMC articulated its views through a post mentioning the hardships endured by citizens during the demonetization phase, which they referred to as a “Tughlaqi farman,” a term alluding to historical decrees that caused considerable difficulty for the populace. The party reminded citizens of the periods during demonetization when people had to stand in long lines outside banks and ATMs for access to their own funds. Similarly, during the COVID-19 pandemic, many families faced significant challenges, waiting in lines outside hospitals and oxygen supply centers as the public health infrastructure was overwhelmed.

Government’s Assurance of Fuel Availability

In light of ongoing tensions in West Asia, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has reassured the public about the availability of petrol and diesel across the country. However, the LPG situation remains a pressing issue for the government. The current unrest in West Asia began on February 28 and has involved conflict primarily between Israel and the United States against Iran. This escalation followed the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, by a coordinated military operation by the US and Israel. As a result, Iran has retaliated, targeting assets associated with these nations in various Gulf countries and Israel, leading to disruptions in energy supply chains and impacting global economic stability.

Public Response and Ongoing Concerns

The ongoing situation has generated significant concern among the populace about fuel availability and rising prices. While Ghosh has emphasized the importance of remaining calm, the TMC’s points reflect a broader frustration with what they perceive as systemic failures that have repeatedly put citizens in challenging situations. The repercussions of these conflicts in West Asia are still unfolding, and the impact on fuel supplies and prices may continue to be a topic of concern for the Indian government and its citizens in the foreseeable future.
