Newborn Girl Allegedly Strangled to Death in Madhya Pradesh Hospital

The CSR Journal Magazine

A one-day-old girl was allegedly strangled to death in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Ashoknagar District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh. The troubling incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon when medical personnel discovered the infant unresponsive. Initial assessments indicated that the cause of death was not natural, and a postmortem subsequently affirmed the suspicions of foul play.

The newborn was born to Bhavana, a resident of Sakra village in Chanderi, late on Friday night. Following her birth, the infant was admitted to the SNCU, where she was under medical observation for her well-being. Reports indicate that her mother had breastfed her shortly before the disturbing discovery was made.

Civil Surgeon Dr. BL Tagore reported that the mother had informed doctors about the feeding, claiming the baby appeared to be fine at that moment. Subsequently, when medical staff checked on the infant, they noted conspicuous deep blue-red marks around her neck and blood emanating from her mouth, leading to her immediate declaration of death.

Police Question Family Members

Upon discovery of the infant’s condition, police began questioning her mother and grandmother, who were the only individuals present with the newborn at the time. Initial investigations revealed no evidence suggesting an external individual had entered the ward during the incident, leading authorities to focus their inquiries on the family members present.

The police aim to establish a timeline of events that transpired between the moment the baby was fed and when she was found unresponsive. Both the mother and grandmother are currently under scrutiny as police seek clarification on their actions during that critical period.

This case marks a significant tragedy for the family, as the infant was their third daughter. The police continue to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this event, hoping to uncover additional information that might shed light on what transpired.

Lack of CCTV Complicates Investigation

The investigation’s complexity has been compounded by the absence of CCTV cameras within the SNCU ward. Given this limitation, police are now scrutinising footage from cameras located in the hospital’s corridors and surrounding areas. The objective is to ascertain whether anyone entered or exited the vicinity around the time of the infant’s death.

Pursuing all possible avenues, law enforcement is focusing on assessing the footage from the external cameras to identify any unusual activities that might provide insights. It remains paramount for the investigators to gather sufficient evidence to identify the perpetrator responsible for the newborn’s tragic demise.

The police will maintain their inquiries with the family while simultaneously reviewing available CCTV footage. Authorities are determined to establish a comprehensive narrative of events leading to this unfortunate incident and ensure that justice is served.
