The Nampally court has denied the police remand of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Members of Legislative Council (MLCs) Thatha Madhu and Naveen Reddy. This decision comes amid an investigation into alleged derogatory remarks aimed at the Telangana Assembly Speaker.

The Saifabad police had previously charged the two MLCs and subsequently produced them before the court following their arrest. During the hearing, the judge evaluated the arguments presented by both the prosecution and the defence. The court ultimately found sufficient grounds to reject the request for police custody, leading to significant reactions from the involved parties.

Reactions from the BRS Leadership

Following the court’s ruling, Thatha Madhu addressed the media, asserting that justice had prevailed and expressing gratitude towards the court and his legal representatives. He stated that there had been ongoing attempts by the Revanth Reddy-led government to imprison them unjustly. According to him, the ruling reflected the truth of their claims.

Madhu also highlighted the conditions of their arrest, which he described as not allowing basic personal care prior to their court appearance. He expressed appreciation for the support he and Naveen Reddy received from various BRS leaders, including Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and K. T. Rama Rao (KTR). Furthermore, he voiced confidence in the BRS returning to power in future elections, indicating that they would hold Revanth Reddy accountable for his actions.

Statements from Naveen Reddy

Naveen Reddy echoed similar sentiments, regarding the court’s decision as a momentous victory for democracy. He claimed that attempts were made by Revanth Reddy to silence him and Madhu, but asserted that truth ultimately triumphed. Reddy characterised the court’s decision as a significant blow to the Chief Minister, emphasising the pressure alleged to have been exerted on police officials regarding their remand.

He expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from his party’s leadership, including KCR, KTR, and other senior members of the BRS. Reddy stated that while the current situation necessitated public questioning of the opposition, he held respect for the Speaker of the Assembly, but was curious about the response regarding comments made by Congress MLA Shankar that he deemed inappropriate.

Reddy questioned what actions would be taken against the Congress MLA, particularly in relation to remarks wishing harm upon KCR, who has been a pivotal figure in the formation of Telangana. His statement highlighted the ongoing political tensions in the state as legislative sessions approach.
