MP Govt Suggests Murder Angle in Twisha Sharma Death, Cites Possible Struggle Injuries

The CSR Journal Magazine

The investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death has seen a significant development as the Madhya Pradesh government informed the High Court that the injury marks cited in her post-mortem report may have been inflicted during a struggle prior to her demise. This announcement suggests the case, previously assumed to be a suicide, could be re-evaluated as a potential murder, presenting legal challenges for her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, and her husband, Samarth Singh.

The government pointed out injuries on Twisha’s wrist, elbow, and head, arguing that these wounds could not have occurred when her body was taken down. This claim emerged during a hearing where the High Court was considering petitions opposing the anticipatory bail granted to Singh, who faces allegations of subjecting Twisha to dowry-related harassment along with her son.

Officials argue that Twisha was incessantly mocked by her family-in-law for what they perceived as inadequate contributions from her side during her wedding. This assertion adds a layer of complexity to the case, effectively shifting the focus onto the injuries as possible indicators of foul play.

Government Critiques Singh’s Response to Investigations

The Madhya Pradesh government expressed discontent with Singh’s conduct, highlighting her absence during crucial investigative moments. The state claimed that she failed to respond to two police notices dated May 13 and 14, and that officers could not locate her at home when they attempted to deliver summons.

During the proceedings, the government remarked on Singh’s active engagement with media personnel following Twisha’s death, insinuating a deliberate distraction from the inquiry. They stated that despite her openness to journalists, she had not shown the same level of willingness to assist law enforcement.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the state, accused Singh of arrogance rather than cooperation. He noted that her press conferences were strategically crafted narratives potentially influencing witness testimonies. Furthermore, he claimed that text exchanges between Twisha and her mother depicted advice urging her to maintain ties with her mother-in-law amid alleged harassment.

New Developments in CBI Investigation

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken custody of Samarth Singh in relation to the ongoing inquiry into Twisha Sharma’s suspicious death. This move followed the state government’s support for the CBI’s request for custody, citing conditions of bail that required adherence to the investigation and avoiding evidence tampering.

The CBI’s involvement signifies a shift in the handling of the case, as they re-registered the FIR originally filed by the Madhya Pradesh Police. This FIR implicates both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh as accused parties in the investigation, intensifying scrutiny on their roles.

Twisha Sharma, who previously held the title of Miss Pune, was allegedly discovered hanging in her in-law’s residence in Bhopal on May 12. Her family has levelled accusations of mental harassment, domestic violence, and dowry demands against her husband and in-laws. They point to discontent regarding the dowry provided during her marriage on December 9, 2025, opening the door for further inquiry into their actions leading up to Twisha’s death.

Recently, a team of doctors from AIIMS-Delhi conducted a second post-mortem examination at the behest of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, answering concerns from Twisha’s parents about possible lapses in the initial investigation. The High Court is now awaiting to rule on the plea for anticipatory bail cancellation, a decision that could greatly influence the ongoing inquiry.
