In a bold and meticulously executed burglary, three unidentified individuals broke into the residence of retired Justice Ramesh Garg in Indore’s Vijay Nagar area during the early hours of Sunday, escaping with valuables worth over Rs 5 lakh. The incident, which occurred around 3:30 am, has triggered concerns about security in one of the city’s most upscale neighborhoods.

Masked Robbers Loot Judge’s Home as Son Sleeps

The robbers, their faces concealed with masks and hands gloved, gained entry into the bungalow by cutting through an iron window grille. Shockingly, this was done while a security guard was stationed outside. Inside the house, the burglars moved with precision, with one intruder reportedly entering a bedroom and standing silently next to Ritvik Garg, the judge’s son, who was asleep. The individual, armed with a rod, appeared ready to attack if disturbed.

CCTV footage from the scene reveals how the robbers went about the theft. One of them guarded the sleeping Ritvik, another rifled through an almirah to collect cash and jewellery, while the third acted as a lookout. The entire operation, surprisingly, took just over four minutes — a detail that has caught the attention of investigators and the public alike.

Perhaps the most unsettling aspect is that the home’s alarm system did trigger during the break-in. However, Ritvik did not wake up, and neither did other family members who were asleep in nearby rooms, including his wife and children. This has led to questions about whether the system failed or if Ritvik remained motionless out of fear.

Footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, drawing public attention to the eerie calm with which the thieves operated. One social media user remarked, “They would have killed Justice Garg’s son (in the video) if he had woken up. Fortunately, he kept sleeping despite the loud alarm. Security guard was also sleeping.”

Police Form Teams, Suspect Role of Repeat Offender Gang

Senior police officials are treating the matter with urgency. According to Umakant Choudhary, a senior investigating officer, “Given the seriousness of the crimes, we have formed multiple teams to look into the matter.” He also noted that preliminary findings suggest the gang could be responsible for similar break-ins in the recent past.

This robbery was not an isolated case. Reports suggest that other thefts occurred in nearby areas the same night, possibly indicating the involvement of a coordinated group. Police are currently analysing surveillance footage from multiple sources to trace the culprits and piece together the gang’s movements.

The case has sparked outrage and fear in the Vijay Nagar locality, especially because the target was a respected former judge — Justice Ramesh Garg, who previously served as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. That even such high-profile individuals are being targeted has intensified scrutiny of local security protocols.

An official case has been registered, and authorities remain optimistic about identifying and arresting those behind the heist. “We are investigating all angles and are hopeful of arresting the culprits and solving the case soon,” Choudhary said.
