Mamata issues stern warning to party workers at Galsi rally

As the political contest in West Bengal heats up, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday delivered a strong message of caution and vigilance to party workers during a rally in Galsi, urging them to remain alert throughout the polling process and its aftermath.

Addressing a gathering at the Raghunathpur in East Burdwan, Mamata issued a striking warning to her supporters. She advised them not to accept any food or drink after voting concludes, cautioning that such items could be tampered with.

“Do not accept even a cup of tea. Something might be mixed in it. If you lose consciousness, the BJP will take advantage,” she said, stressing the need for constant vigilance at polling booths.

Sharp attack on BJP, allegations of obstruction

The rally, held in support of Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidates Alok Majhi (Galsi) and Shyamaprasanna Lohar (Ausgram), saw Mamata launch a scathing attack on the BJP.

She alleged that attempts were made to obstruct her own nomination filing. “I was held up for four hours on the day I filed my nomination. Only after a heated argument was it accepted.

This is a disgrace to Bengal,” she claimed, hinting at a larger political conspiracy.

Mamata outlined clear instructions for party workers, particularly emphasizing their role after voting ends. “Stand guard at the booths once polling is over. Do not lower your guard,” she said.

She also warned that any lapse in alertness could be exploited by opponents, urging workers to stay organised and attentive.

Drawing an analogy to the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Mamata encouraged voters to resist any form of obstruction. “If someone blocks your path, pick up a broom, clear it, and go cast your vote,” she remarked, framing it as a symbolic act of protest.

‘Delhi outsiders’ and voter list allegations

Targeting the BJP further, Mamata claimed that “Delhi-based outsiders” were being brought into the state to influence the elections. She also alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, accusing authorities of arbitrarily deleting voter names.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of vigilance regarding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). She instructed workers to carefully inspect machines and wait for replacements in case of malfunction to ensure the integrity of votes.

Focus on welfare schemes

Highlighting her government’s initiatives, Mamata pointed to schemes such as Lakshmir Bhandar, Kanyashree, Rupashree, and free ration distribution. She also stated that she had approached the Supreme Court over concerns related to voter list deletions.

Framing the upcoming elections as a high-stakes battle, Banerjee declared, “This is not just an election—it is a political war.” She called upon party workers to remain vigilant, disciplined, and active to secure victory.

With polling day approaching, her remarks underscore the rising intensity of the electoral contest in the state.
