Bride Turns Killer: 3 Weeks After Wedding, Maharashtra Woman Kills Sleeping Husband With Axe

As the nation grapples with the sensational Meghalaya “honeymoon murder” case, another chilling incident of marital violence has emerged from Maharashtra’s Sangli district. Here, a young woman allegedly killed her husband with an axe just weeks after their wedding. The brutal act occurred on Vat Purnima, an auspicious festival celebrated in Maharashtra.

Vat Purnima is a traditional and sacred day for married women where they fast for the long life of their husbands. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community. The incident has drawn sharp parallels to the ongoing investigation into the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.

Wife kills Husband while he was asleep

According to reports the victim is identified as 53-year-old Anil Lokhande. He was allegedly hacked to death by his 27-year-old wife, Radhika. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at their residence in Kupwad tehsil of Sangli.

The Police reports indicate that the fatal attack took place around 12:30 am. The attack comes after Lokhande, who had married Radhika just 15 days prior, insisted on consummating their marriage. This reportedly led to a heated argument between the couple.

According to Assistant Police Inspector (ASI) Deepak Bhandavalkar of Kupwad MIDC police station, Radhika, in a fit of rage, fatally struck her husband with an axe while he was asleep in bed. Police said, “At around 12:30 pm on Wednesday, when Anil was asleep, Radhika hit him on the head with an axe, killing him on the spot”. Anil Lokhande’s first wife had passed away from cancer, and he had remarried Radhika on May 17. He is survived by two married daughters from his previous marriage.

Radhika arrested

Following the incident Radhika was arrested and has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. However, the exact motive behind the murder is still under investigation, though police initially suspect a family feud.

Inspector Deepak Bandwalkar of MIDC Police Station stated, “In a dispute between the spouses, the wife killed her husband with an axe while he was still in bed. We have arrested the accused woman, Radhika Lokhande, on charges of murdering her husband, Anil Lokhande. The investigation is ongoing. Only after the probe will we understand the true motive behind the murder,” he said.

Meghalaya Honeymoon case

This recent incident comes amidst the high-profile Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, which continues to unfold with sensational twists. In that case, a young bride allegedly conspired with her lover and hired killers to murder her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya barely days after their wedding in Indore.

Raja Raghuvanshi, 29, was killed and his body was dumped into a remote forest gorge near Cherrapunji. What initially appeared to be a tragic accident unravelled into a calculated murder involving his new wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her lover, Raj Kushwaha.

Investigation Ongoing

Meanwhile, the unsettling similarities between these two cases, involving newly married couples and allegations of spousal murder, underscore a disturbing trend of marital violence. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing as authorities strive to uncover the full truth and bring all perpetrators to justice.
