A constable from the Uttar Pradesh Police in Lucknow has allegedly murdered his wife during a heated argument, reportedly using an iron rod as the weapon. The accused is identified as Himanshu Srivastava, a head constable stationed at the Right to Information (RTI) cell office in Lucknow. The incident purportedly occurred in their rented residence, where the couple had been residing for approximately two-and-a-half years.

The confrontation between Himanshu and his wife, Rashmi Srivastava, aged 40, escalated on Sunday, leading to the fatal assault. Reports indicate that he struck her on the head with the iron rod, resulting in significant bleeding. Following the incident, Himanshu allegedly remained in the vicinity of the body before taking his one-year-old son outside for a period of three hours.

Upon returning, he reportedly sat beside Rashmi’s body within their home. Concerned for his sister’s well-being, Rashmi’s brother, Saurabh Srivastava, visited the residence after she failed to respond to phone calls. Saurabh stated they found Rashmi lying in a pool of blood near the kitchen, where she had already succumbed to her injuries.

Family’s Allegations of Harassment

Following the discovery of her body, the family contacted the police, leading to Himanshu’s subsequent detention. Saurabh Srivastava alleged that Himanshu had been harassing Rashmi since their marriage in 2015, claiming that her husband often escaped accountability due to his position in the police force. Allegedly, this harassment included a previous incident where Himanshu attempted to strangle her with a towel.

According to Rashmi’s family, she endured years of alleged mistreatment to uphold the sanctity of her marriage. Her father mentioned that she sent a message on the festival of Janmashtami, assuring her family that everything was fine, indicating that no warning signs of impending trouble were present.
