LPG Vessel Apollo Ocean Docks at New Mangalore Port Amid West Asia Tensions

The CSR Journal Magazine

The LPG tanker Apollo Ocean arrived at New Mangalore Port in Karnataka, addressing India’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas supply concerns amidst the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The ship, registered under the flag of Vietnam, docked at the port, contributing to India’s energy requirements for the month. Earlier this March, the arrivals of LPG carriers Shivalik and MT Nanda Devi delivered around 92,712 metric tonnes of LPG, further supporting the nation’s energy needs.

Successful Transit of Indian LPG Carriers

In a noteworthy development, two Indian LPG carriers, Jag Vasant and Pine Gas, have navigated the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Their successful passage represents a crucial milestone in energy transport in the region. The vessels transported an approximate total of 92,612.59 metric tonnes of LPG, as visual documentation showcased the Pine Gas carrier traversing this vital maritime chokepoint. With 33 and 27 Indian seafarers aboard each vessel, the crews managed the complex transit through these waters effectively.

Expected Arrival and Domestic Energy Assurance

Following their successful journey through the Strait of Hormuz, both carriers are now en route to India. They are expected to reach various Indian ports between March 26 and March 28, completing their transit from the Gulf. The Indian Petroleum Ministry has assured that the country’s energy supply remains secure and stable amid regional tensions. Officials remarked that there are no reported shortages of petrol, diesel, or LPG, and that retail outlets across the nation are operating without disruptions.

Government Response to Misinformation

The Petroleum Ministry urged citizens to rely solely on official channels and refrain from disseminating rumors regarding energy supplies. The government continues to prioritize seamless access to energy resources for all citizens. In the context of this crisis, the focus is also on expanding the infrastructure for Piped Natural Gas (PNG), along with ensuring that there is sufficient availability of petrol and diesel, with no recent changes in fuel pricing.

Commitment to Domestic Natural Gas Supply

During an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, emphasized that the government is committed to achieving 100 percent domestic supply of PNG. A notification has been issued to streamline and expedite the process for laying and expanding pipelines across the nation as part of efforts to develop and enhance the natural gas infrastructure. This initiative signifies a proactive approach to ensuring energy stability amidst external challenges.
