Long Queues Push Autorickshaw Drivers to Seek Govt Action amid Fuel Shortage

The CSR Journal Magazine

Long queues of autorickshaws formed at a fuel station in the Khairatabad area of Hyderabad on March 26, as drivers sought to secure fuel for their vehicles. Numerous drivers reported extensive wait times at the station, prompting calls for the government to address the ongoing fuel shortage and provide assistance to auto-rickshaw operators.

BRS Leader Highlights Serious Situation

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Ravula Sridhar Reddy described the fuel situation as “very bad,” with evident distress among residents. He spoke about the long lines observed at petrol stations in Hyderabad and highlighted the anxiety prevalent among the public, despite multiple official reassurances. Reddy conveyed that continuous reports had failed to ease concerns, leading to panic buying among citizens.

Government Urged to Coordinate Fuel Supply

Reddy stressed the necessity for the Telangana state government to collaborate closely with the central government to ensure a dependable supply chain for fuel. He urged for measures that would instill public confidence regarding fuel availability. “The situation is alarming; long queues are clearly visible at petrol stations. Although numerous statements have been made, worry remains widespread. The government must assure the public that fuel supplies are not at risk,” he stated.

State Officials Assert No Shortages Exist

The Consumer Affairs, Food, and Civil Supplies Department of Telangana clarified that there is no actual shortage of petrol, diesel, or domestic LPG within the state. A press release from the department confirmed that the supply chain from oil refineries to local depots remains fully operational, with sufficient stock to meet the daily requirements of residents across various districts.

Panic Buying Creates Artificial Scarcity

The release attributed the long queues and temporary “No Stock” signs at some fuel stations to sudden panic buying spurred by unfounded rumors. Officials expressed that when residents rush to fully tank their vehicles, it leads to artificial scarcity despite the availability of fuel in local depots.

Minor Impact from Administrative Changes

Additionally, the release noted that recent administrative adjustments concerning advance-payment models implemented by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) had resulted in minor logistical challenges for certain local fuel dealers. These adjustments are not expected to have a long-term impact on fuel availability.
