Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Slams ‘The Kerala Story 2’ Trailer, Calls for Unity Against Communal Divide

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recently released trailer for “The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond” has drawn sharp criticism from Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. In a statement shared on social media, Vijayan expressed concern over what he described as a “hate-mongering” sequel to the original film. The Chief Minister emphasized the need to take the reports about the film’s release seriously, citing the communal agenda he believes was evident in the first installment.

Condemnation of Fabricated Narratives

Vijayan stated that Kerala would once again reject efforts to malign its secular identity. He questioned how fabricated narratives aimed at inciting communal tension can go unchecked while legitimate expressions of art face scrutiny. “We must stand united against these attempts to paint our land of harmony as a hub of terror. The truth shall always prevail,” he asserted, calling for solidarity among the state’s residents.

Background of The Kerala Story

The first film, released in 2023 and directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, focused on the theme of Islamic radicalization in Kerala. The upcoming sequel, set to premiere on February 27, continues to address similar contentious themes. Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, “The Kerala Story 2” follows the experiences of three Hindu girls, portrayed by Ulka Gupta, Aishwarya Ojha, and Aditi Bhatia, who become romantically involved with three Muslim men. The narrative reportedly unveils a gradual agenda of religious conversion, which has sparked further debate and criticism.

Calls for Accountability in Film Production

A renowned Malayali filmmaker, known for his progressive works, has raised questions regarding the financial backing of such films. He pointed out the discernible divisive agenda behind the narratives and asked for transparency regarding the funding sources for these productions. Additionally, he queried the validity of the statistics presented in these films, emphasizing the need for rigorous research to support their claims.

Judicial Response to the Film

Moreover, the Kerala High Court has sought responses from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the producers
