External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has reached Zurich on September 21, 2026, during his travel to New York. He is set to engage in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 2026. This visit aligns with the annual global gathering of world leaders to discuss crucial international matters.

Jaishankar was greeted at Zurich airport by Ambassador Mridul Kumar, who represents India in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The welcome was acknowledged through a post on the social media platform X, illustrating the embassy’s role in facilitating Jaishankar’s transit.

Ambassador Kumar took the opportunity to inform Jaishankar about recent developments, including high-level exchanges between India, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. These discussions reflect the strengthening of diplomatic ties and the ongoing collaboration between the nations.

UN General Assembly Overview

The 81st session of the UN General Assembly is taking place under the theme “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.” Scheduled from September 22 to 28, this session will witness the participation of 193 member states, including presidents, prime ministers, and senior officials.

In his capacity as President, Khalilur Rahman from Bangladesh will oversee the proceedings. During this high-profile event, leaders are expected to articulate their priorities regarding global issues, fostering an environment conducive to dialogue and cooperation.
