A 22-year-old BBA student from Indore, Shraddha Tiwari, embarked on a journey that bore uncanny similarities to the 2007 Bollywood hit Jab We Met. On August 23, Shraddha left her home in the MIG police station area to elope with her boyfriend, Sarthak Gehlot. However, when she reached the railway station, Sarthak called and told her he no longer wished to marry her.
A Twist of Fate at Ratlam
Heartbroken and without a destination, Shraddha boarded a train and disembarked at Ratlam, a city famously featured in Jab We Met. There, fate took an unexpected turn. She ran into Karandeep, an electrician employed at her college in Indore, who noticed her sitting alone and distressed at the station.
After hearing her story and advising her to return home, Karandeep was taken aback when Shraddha insisted she couldn’t go back unmarried. Moved by her determination, Karandeep proposed marriage. Shraddha accepted, and the two travelled to Maheshwar, where they tied the knot in a temple ceremony before heading to Mandsaur.
Family Panic and Police Involvement
Meanwhile, Shraddha’s father, Anil Tiwari, launched a frantic search. He announced a ₹51,000 reward for any information and even hung her photo upside down, a traditional superstition to help missing persons return. CCTV footage later confirmed she had left home at 2 a.m. on August 23 without her phone.
Shraddha eventually called her father and informed him she was safe. Though relieved, he expressed disbelief about her sudden marriage and concerns over her mental well-being. He claimed Karandeep said Shraddha was contemplating suicide when he intervened.
Police Skeptical, Couple Questioned
Upon returning to Indore, the couple visited the MIG police station where Shraddha gave her statement. Indore’s Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotia confirmed they are verifying the marriage claim and have asked for proof. The police are still questioning both individuals.
Shraddha’s father said he would keep the two apart for 10 days. If Shraddha still wishes to be with Karandeep, the family may accept the marriage, acknowledging her status as an adult.
