Iran Rejects U.S. Dialogue, Calls Donald Trump Claims ‘Market Manipulation’ Amid Rising Tensions

The CSR Journal Magazine

Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, has stated that there are currently no diplomatic conversations occurring between Tehran and Washington. He characterized U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent call for dialogue as a strategy aimed at manipulating financial markets. In an interview, Fathali emphasized that Iran remains steadfast and unperturbed by what he termed “ultimatums,” asserting that the country will continue its resistance until its sovereign conditions are satisfied.

No Constructive Dialogue, Ambassador Asserts

The Iranian envoy responded to Trump’s extension of a “48-hour ultimatum” into a five-day period for what the President called “constructive talks.” Fathali firmly stated that no negotiations, either direct or indirect, are taking place. He pointed out that Trump’s claims on social media appear to have the intent of influencing financial and oil markets while the United States and Israel face challenging situations.

Diplomatic Relations Deteriorating

Fathali reiterated that negotiations with the United States are non-existent at this time. He dismissed Trump’s assertions, indicating that they are more related to market manipulation than genuine dialogue. Highlighting the contradictions in U.S. actions, he noted that the U.S. speaks of dialogue while simultaneously engaging in attacks against Iranian infrastructure.

Concerns Over Maritime Security Addressed

On the matter of maritime safety for Indian vessels in the region, the Ambassador stated that he lacks an exact count of the ships currently present. However, he confirmed that several cases are being monitored, with some vessels already having secured safe passage. Fathali attributed any delays to the conditions imposed by adversaries seeking to destabilize the region.

Strait of Hormuz Remains Open

The Ambassador affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is not closed to navigation. He clarified that only vessels linked to the aggressor nations, specifically the United States and its allies, are restricted from transit. Other nations’ vessels, as long as they have not engaged in or supported aggressive actions against Iran, can navigate the Strait safely.

Potential Role of India in De-escalation

Fathali acknowledged India’s capability to assist in easing the regional tension. He praised India’s balanced foreign policy and its status as a leader in the Global South, labeling the country as a reliable actor who can help mitigate misunderstandings among involved parties. He noted India’s historical and strategic relations with all sides, enabling effective diplomatic intervention.

Iran’s Stance on Ongoing Conflict

Discussing the current conflict, Fathali asserted that while Iran did not instigate hostilities, it is prepared to pursue the conflict to its conclusion. He expressed that the cessation of hostilities hinges on the full acknowledgment of Iran’s legitimate demands. These include an end to aggressive actions, credible guarantees against future threats, accountability for aggressors, and respect for Iran’s rights and interests.

Commitment to Defense Under New Leadership

Emphasizing Iran’s dedication to national defense, Fathali mentioned that the country will not hesitate to protect itself. He recalled the lessons learned from past leadership, affirming that the cost of resistance is lesser than that of surrender. This principle will guide Iran’s future stance under the leadership of President Pezeshkian.
