Indian Air Force Showcases Combat Power at Vayushakti-26 in Pokhran, President Attends

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indian Air Force (IAF) executed Exercise Vayushakti-26 at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, showcasing its comprehensive combat readiness and operational capabilities. This exercise highlighted the IAF’s technological advancements across various domains of air operations. An official announcement from the Ministry of Defence indicated that President Droupadi Murmu attended the Fire Power Demonstration as the Chief Guest, joined by several esteemed guests including Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and others from the Defence community and government. The exercise successfully illustrated the IAF’s ability to conduct complex, integrated air operations in a realistic simulation of a battlefield environment.

Innovative Operational Storyline and Indigenous Aircraft

In a novel approach, Exercise Vayushakti was organized along a specific operational narrative, effectively simulating a live combat scenario. This format allowed for the integration of offensive air strikes, air defense maneuvers, special forces operations, and humanitarian assistance missions, thereby underscoring the IAF’s multifaceted role as an integrated force and rapid responder to national emergencies. On the same day, the President participated in a sortie aboard the indigenously developed Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand, demonstrating India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense manufacturing within the framework of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.

Ceremonial Events and High-Intensity Missions

The exercise commenced with the National Anthem and the National Song, marked by a ceremonial flypast of Chetak helicopters carrying the National Flag, Air Force Ensign, and Operation Sindoor Flag. Following this, a Rafale fighter jet executed a precisely timed sonic boom, paving the way for subsequent high-intensity combat missions. More than 130 aircraft participated in both daytime and nighttime operations, including advanced fighter planes such as Rafale, Su-30 MKI, and Mirage-2000, among others. These aircraft conducted precision strikes on simulated enemy positions using advanced weaponry, including precision-guided munitions that emphasized the IAF’s capacity for delivering accurate firepower.

Demonstration of Joint Air Defence Capabilities

Air defense operations were prominently showcased through coordinated efforts involving airborne assets and ground-based systems like Akash and Spyder missile systems, along with support from Army air defense platforms such as L-70 and M-777. This demonstrated the seamless integration between air and ground forces during the exercise. Special operations and humanitarian aid missions were also significant components of the event, with Garud Special Forces and Para SF units being deployed via Mi-17 helicopters for simulated urban intervention and hostage rescue tasks. Following this, C-130 and C-295 aircraft facilitated assault landings and evacuations, reaffirming the IAF’s crucial role in rapid response scenarios.

Night Operations and Concluding Ceremonies

The night phase of the exercise showcased integrated air defense and air-landed operations, culminating in precision night strikes by multiple fighter platforms. This segment underscored the IAF’s capability to maintain operational dominance throughout the day and night. The exercise concluded with a symbolic ceasefire flypast by a C-17 aircraft, further complemented by a drone display celebrating the achievements and legacy of the IAF. Guided by the principles of “Achook, Abhedya aur Sateek”, Exercise Vayushakti-26 validated the IAF’s operational framework, joint integration, and technological capabilities, reinforcing its essential role in ensuring India’s national power and strategic deterrence.
